i already paid him for a 3400 ported throttlebody. he does the intake manifolds himself. he sends the heads and throttlebodys out to be P&P'd. now some places i read about a 6valve and a 9 valve. what is it? does it increase horsepower? or sh ould i let v6h.o. do my heads?

If APOC is going to port the heads, then there is no need to go any further than that. If they are simply sending you a stock 3400 head, then I would take Colin up on his offer.

I would think anything over a 3 angle valve job would be a little excessive and would only drain your wallet. A valve job seeks to help your heads flow better.

i will take your advice and stick with apoc's P&P since your advice has been most helpful so far. so with that in hand, put bigger valves put on? ok! is that expensive? power increase? and i'm sure that john at apoc can do that before he sends it back to me..... so anything else i should do while i have the engine torn apart? oh and what to do about a matching head gasket?

Yeah, you could contact John and see if he can do the valve job and bigger valves before he sends them to you.

As far as gaskets go, I would simply get a complete gasket kit from Fel Pro. It is far cheaper than getting the gaskets individually.

gasket kit from fel pro? never heard of that. sounds like a online company... and that is high quality gaskets for the heads and intakes? sounds good.

man thats cheap... 550 usd... man you should have looked at the thread earlier.. i was just going to order the heads oem and send them to you... but ikessky recommended that i stick with john over at apoc.... so after hearing that i promised john at apoc that i will do my heads there... but its so much cheaper with you.... shoot... a lot cheaper... btw how much with new stainless steel larger valve locks and springs and retainers?

i might do it with you. are you going to do all the work yourself??? what kind of experience do you have??? do you own a company that does this stuff??? i'm paying a lot more over at apoc but i know it is going to get done right... unless you can persuade me... so far you seem credible.

plus the heads that john is offering me at apoc came out of a warrantied car, so they are damn new.

                  ikessky: what are your thoughts?

you'd have to provide me with the heads.

ive been porting heads for about 3 years now. i know what im doing with port work.
for the valve job, resurfacing and all the machine work like that i send them out to a local guy who does all my engine work. he gives me great prices as im always giving him business with all the heads i get for port work.

stainless steel valves would be extra, i'd just buy them from SI if i were you and send them with the heads if you wanted to go with my stuff.

performance valve springs and valve seals are extra as well.

the price is for you sending me a set of heads to work on. i do have a spare set of 3400 heads right now. but i'd need your heads for 'core'

i also do porting of the LIM and Plenums as well.

if you want to see some pics of my work i have some here:

http://www.domesticcrew.com/colin/2004/ (pics from 26-47 are BEFORE PORTING)
                      http://www.domesticcrew.com/colin/3400portwork/ (same head AFTER porting)

if you dont think i can do good work here is a list of cars that i did work on:
this is Local winnipeg boy's cars that ive done:
                      my sunbird. runs 14.3's
Aaron's 2002 z24. 2.4L with set of cams and port work and header 14.8's.
Jordie (gagt) 2001 3400 s&s headers and my port work 14.9's
my friend Mark pre dyno 141 WHP 2.4L, after my port work and a the secret cams 162 HP to the wheels.
i have two 3800 powered cars in the 13's. with my port work.
one a 3800 S/C with ported S/C ported LIM, ported heads 13.7's. 8psi pully and TOG headers and cam.
the other 3800 with turbo, 7psi, ported heads and LIM 13.8's

there are other customers from the US and canada but i dont keep track of all the times they put out. some havnt run yet either.

you dont have to go with me. just a suggestion.

if you want to, i will get started on this set of heads i have here, they all get crack tested and are inspected to ensure there is nothing wrong with them.
this way your not down without car while the work is being done.

                      let me know.

sorry bud. only camshaft companies can make camshafts. and right now you'd only be able to get a regrind from crower or JBP.

no i dont have anything to work off of to build headers. but right now i dont have teh time to build a set either.

Just to vouch for v6ho, He did my head work, and his customer service was awesome. He always replied to me when he said he was going, and stayed in communication with me. I would definatley do business with him again. I completly trust him with my money/car parts.

Comp Cams is working on a set of performance camshafts for the gen3's right now, but they're taking their sweet time...
you can expect anywhere between a 10+ HP gain from a camshaft swap. depends on mods ect.

Brad and GPXSS have both had their cams reground by crower, (this is the only option out there for different gen3 cams is a regrind) Jbody performance has reground camshafts as well.

Thanks Feavs. i appreciate the complements.
