i have a 95 3100. I was wanting to put the 3400 heads on. I was wanting to know what else i would need for this to work.

    Thanks William

Hopefully you are also going to use the lower and upper intakes and the TB from the 3400 as well. You will need to switch to the new style temp sensor (a 3 wire sensor in the t-stat housing) and you will need to address the difference in the EGR valve. It's easy enough to make an adapter plate for this. Someone else will probably say I'm missing something, but I'll let them add it!

hello, i'm new, i'm a common over at clubgp.com........i also have a 3100 in a 95 grand prix, so the UPPER and LOWER intake, throttlebody, and heads from a 3400 can be swapped into a 3100??? what year grand am 3400 engines can be donors?????? and i'm guessing that i can have all ported and polished before i drop them in???

so other modifications that can go along with it are a switch to a new style temp sensor, and a differencece in the egr valve. anything else. thanks for your info ikessky. know of anyone on this forum who has done this swap?

Brad (bszopi) swapped the intakes with the stock 3100 heads, but that was a while ago. There are some problems that can be run into if you use the stock 3100 heads with the new intakes. I'm sure there were other people, but I can't recall them right now. It's been a long day.

GA's aren't the only vehicle that came with a 3400, so don't limit your search there. And yes, if you were planning on a port and polish job, it would be easiest to do it now before you put everything on.

I don't know when the GA's started getting 3400's. I'm thinking '98-'99. Any and all 3400's will work though. They came in Impala's, Venture's, Montana's, Aztek's, Alero's........... There is quite a long list to choose from. I would look for newer parts if you can find them, but even the '99 stuff will work just fine.

Yes, if you are swapping the top end, I would do the heads also. You will eliminate any potential interference that the '95 rocker arms will cause and you will gain a better flowing head that has stock roller rockers.

The minivans were the first to get the 3400s in 97. The cars (GA, Alero, etc) started getting them in 99. All 3100s from 2000-present use the same exact parts as the 3400s.

Here is a link to the write-up between the different manifolds and the complications that may arise when trying to use the old style heads with the newer manifolds: http://www.60degreev6.com/index.php?p=pages&pid=68

The EGR is the biggest issue, but as was stated, there are several people around here now making adapter plates for them since this is becoming a popular swap.

They are all the same performance wise as far as the manifolds and heads go. The only change is the coolant pipe connection and the EGR mounting point.

The link from above (http://www.60degreev6.com/index.php?p=pages&pid=68) showed the coolant connection. I have pics of the EGR somewhere...

so i will need new intake gaskets too then huh..... and a new headgasket for the 3400 when i do the swap on my 3100??????

does anyone know who can make me an adapter plate???? i will pay???

also for the throttlebody, i can start there first, instead of getting a 3400 throttle body polished, would it be better if i get the fdp throttle body?? what would work the best????

also for the coolant heater hose, do i buy a factory hose??? or do i just buy heaterhose from a local parts store and make it fit???

man i can't wait to post pics soon.
