  • 2002 buick century

    Hello everyone,

i recently acquired a 2002 buick century and i was curious as to if there was anyway to get a little bit more pep to this car.my dad has a buick le sabre with the 3800 motor in it and i am trying to compete with his car just a little and i do know this car wasnt made with speed in mind. i am a college student and dont have a ton of money but am willing to invest a little in this car.

thanks for any help or advice that you guys could give.

i understand where your coming from but my dad is a mechanic and having an unmodified car just isn't in my blood. im not looking to do a rebuild just something simple and a good DIY project with the old man

Ok, need to know your budget, your expectations, what engine does your Buick have in it, how many miles on her, current problems ( transmission slips, overheats, misses, backfires, See, we can throw money at it or fix what is wrong with it.....Tom

2002 Buick Century will have the large port 3100 in it. Budget is definitely the biggest thing here, as unfortunately, modding these engines isn't as cheap as most other engines.

it currently has 125xxx miles on it and their is nothing wrong mechanically wrong with t except for a broken window regulator that is currently being taken care of.. my budget is around 2,000.. i was wondering if parts from other gm cars were compatible with it such as brakes and suspension.

Brakes? I did a drum to disc brake swap on my 1997 Monte Carlo. I used a 1999 Lumina with disc brakes as the donor car. The entire system was a bolt on including the brake fluid lines. Check wheel alignment afterwards also. Salvage yard even threw in the 2 emergency brake cables needed (1 emergency cable to each wheel on disc brakes) Oh yea, very easy POC (piece of cake) job to do, install new struts while your at it........Tom

Call your local salvage yards and tell them what you intend to do. You will be using the hardware back plate, nuts and bolts, emergency brake hardware including the EB brackets ( 2 left and right side). You should buy new rotors and calipers. They are cheap to buy new. Lay everything out, clean it up, paint it, find information and guides from autozone.com ( repair guides ). The biggest problem was relocating the right rear emergency brake cable. Had a difficult time strapping the hold down clamp to the frame of the car. You and pop should have a good time doing this project. You can't screw it up. I'm 58 years old and have a gravel driveway to work on. ....Tom
