  • 2.8 build

I am begining my buildup of my 2.8 in my Pontiac 6000. My plan is to install forged con rods, coated pistons, forged crank, to build my own intake and exaust, turbo and intercooler as for the transmission maybe a Geterag 5 speed, but i want to try to use the 6000 STE AWD will the 5 speed mate up? I dont know untill I try.

From what I know of the early AWD setups, they are similar to the 4T65E AWD setups in the SUVs of today. The trannies basically have a PTO type attachment in the case, which applies power to the rear wheels. The Getrag won't have this option. But, I could be wrong on the older tranny, and there might be a way to adapt it.

Um, my question would be is your 6k an awd already or is it a standard fwd? Because if its just a fwd, then your opening a can of worms thats fermented awhile. The entire belly pan & tranny tunnel are different. Also, the rear suspension is WAY different & not interchangable. That being said, the awd system was pretty stought (some say able to handle 400hp) EXCEPT for the tranny that was barely able to handle the stock 3.1. I know it sounds odd considering it was only a 3 speed auto but the weak link had to do with the tansfer/ final drive set-up. A 5 speed stick awd option was never offered in production but chevy did build one drivable prototype awd stick shift beretta. So I suppose with enough resouces it could be built but in the end, is it really worth it?
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance
