I wouldn't worry about SFI in all honestly, since as Robert was kind of referring to, the ECM reverts back to batch fire at XXXrpm. It'll save you some fuel while cruising, but I just don't see it being worth the effort.

Well thats something I didnt know!
Looks like I have a lot more reading to do in the tuning section...

How much should I expect to spend for tuning equipment for a '9396?
And what code would be the best for me, in terms of being user friendly, as im a beginner.

I suppose I can tune using my apple laptop right?
      I sure hope so...

i can't think of any apple-native tuning packages.... does it have any kind of windows emulation? i know a few linux guys have managed to get tunerpro working through WINE.....

as far as equipment, minimum of a burner, ALDL cable, at least a couple EEPROMs, (if you're not good with soldering) a G1 adapter(with either a ZIF socket or use a HDR1 to program the chip while still in the MEMCAL/adapter).... i think that covers all of the requirements in low-buck form.

if you want to get fancy, you can grab an emulator or some BIN switching hardware like a G3, which allows for 16 tunes on one chip( i have one, and although i mainly only use the first 1 or 2 BINs, it's helped narrow down some issues VERY quickly that would have otherwise taken far longer to correct.

you could probably grab a willems cheaper, but the simplest burner to use is the moates BURN2($85), some SF512 EEPROMs can be had cheap as well, i think i got my last ones at ~$2 each. a G1 costs $35, or the alternative is a HDR1, which costs ~$10. lastly, the ALDL cable... FTDI seems to have drivers for macs, so maximum cheap would be to build it yourself, i've assembled serial cables for ~$12 and USB versions for slightly less than $30. otherwise, the cheapest commercial ones you'll find are the aldlcable.com versions at $60 for either plus shipping. i make small batches of them for cheaper though, $30 serial/ $45 USB plus shipping, but the aesthetics aren't as up to par, but it's at least a true MAX232 circuit, not the 2-transistor setup that aldlcable.com uses.

Yep, i can do 2 inputs at once. I'm pretty sure the cutoff is between 1 and 2K RPM for batch fire though.

$SA1( Super A1) was a project that i started years ago, basically modifying the heck out of $A1 BFUZ by getting rid of extra junk like the trans shift tables and enlarging the VE and SA tables to run up to 8K RPM. That's one of the reasons i built the '7730 test bench but life has gotten in the way. I had some issues with the disassembler that were causing headaches at the time. Maybe this winter i'll look into it again.
