  • Starter for high compression?

    Everyone:

I'm toying with th idea of building another motor, and doing this one the way I should have done it the first time.
I'm thinking of 11.5:1 Diamond forged pistons in a +.020" overbore, 3500 heads, PAC springs, TCE double roller, etc.
From some of the rough information I've gathered, it should end up somewhere around 11.0:1 on the static compression.
My question is - will a stock starter be able to spin this thing??? It'd suck to build it, only to not be able to crank it up. Sorry if this question has been answered before.

Stock gear reduction starter for your car will work. What are the chances of letting me borrow your car to get it setup properly as it is?

you're doing the same thing im doing. kinda funny. 3400 block, 11.5:1 cr forged pistons, tce double roller, competition ported heads (3400, not 3500), and a custom ground cam. with all the other mods im doing should be around 240-250whp. and i don't know much about your current build but if you don't already have a beefed up trans expect to do that as well.

EDIT: ok..just checked out your cardomain..and your ahead of the game on the tranny. haha. if you don't mind me asking what'd you do to get the 3.42 fdr?

        Stock W-body 3.4 DOHC 4T60E is 3.42... same chain ratio as a 3.73 with a 3.18 instead of a 3.33...

It doesn't sound any different than stock.

static compression means nothing when it comes to exhaust sound, the tone is deturmined by the camshaft timing events, port shape and size and the headers/manifolds plus the obvious pipe size, Y pipe, H pipe, X pipe, muffler(s) and tip(s).

By the way, how much did JBP charge you for those pistons?

fair enough but i had a bunch of people asking me if i change my exhaust bcause it was quieter.
i paid 400$ for those piston, waited like a year for them and when i emailed them about it they said they didnt have it on record.
