  • Crank Trigger Ring for 3500 crankshaft...WHERE?

Hey, just wondering if someone could point in the direction of where to find a Crank Trigger Ring for a 3500 crankshaft that convert it to the 3.4L 60* V6 style reluctor? I've been told they're around, and just hoping someone here can tell me where to find one. THANKS!

the only one i've seen was a custom job, the external one that wot-tech sells is what you saw in my garage.

Maybe we can talk TCE into making some though.

by the way, welcome to 60v6!

Yeah, that's probably what I'll have to go with. Who made that custom one you saw? Were they local?

LOL! Forgive my ignorance, but who or what is TCE?

Nice to find another good source of info! Oh, is there anywhere in particular the RWD folks hang out here?

TCE is the company that does most of the custom parts and machine work for WOT-Tech. The one custom deal Dave is taking about I also remember... He had a custom made reluctor to be pressed onto his crank in place of the stock one. I have no idea where he went to have it done, or what the status of that car even is anymore.

they've actually made a lot of the aftermarket 60V6 parts out there... i believe ben has quite a few listed through WOT-Tech as well.

            Oh, that's who they are...COOOL.

Did TCE make that custom press-on reluctor? I know WOT-Tech/TCE make the external DIS systems, but I'm hoping that TCE could make that press-on reluctor. Or, at least, point me in the right direction of where I could find one.

            THANKS FOR THE HELP!

No they were not the maker of the press on one that someone had done. I think that was done at a shop local to him.

Okay, I've found out that the 58x reluctor on the 3500 crank can be removed, and that the hub underneath it is the same diameter and width as the 7x reluctor on the 3.4L crankshaft. So, all I need to do is knock the 58x reluctor off my 3500 crank, and then have a competent shop machine the hub for the 7x-style reluctor. That is the "conversion" in a hand-basket...

That is correct. They will first need to mill down behind where the reluctor goes, as the center hub is taller behind the reluctor. Once that is at the same height as the rest of the hub, it can then be machined for the notches. After that is done, it will need to be rebalanced. The cost of all the machine work will most likely be more than the external crank trigger, hence the reasoning behind it. In your situation, you may look at other possible external crank triggers that are out there and see if you can adopt it to your engine.

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to tell the shop that when I ask for an estimate. I'll have to have the whole rotating assembly balanced anyways...
I'll see what the shop gives for an estimate before I decide whether to go this route or attempt to make the external DIS setup work.
                    THANKS AGAIN!
