  • lx9 roller tip roller rockers anyone?

    Ok I can't find any info on which 1.6 narrow bodied roller tip roller rockers will be the the best fit with min. cutting/fabing. And is better to get aluminum or stainless steel for this setup?

    With the advent of Variable Valve Timing integrated in your LX9 Engine...( or did they skip the LX9s???) aren't you concerned with problems from making any modifications to the valve train of this "High Value" GM Engine? It might not be worth your while to mess around with something that has this variability issue. By the way... How did you manage to find Superdave under two different names (One here and another at the Third Gen Site) ? LOL

      The LX9 doesn't have VVT. Your best best is the Crane gold race aluminum roller rockers.

        Yep, non-vvt on the lx9 that's the newer 3500 that has the vvt.

        Back to subject, on the cran gold series how much would I need to trim off of them to clear eachother and the lim?

          Honestly, I think it just depends. Some people have them clear with no issues, while others have needed to grind them down slightly. I will try to get Ben to post in here, as he used to sell them on WOT-Tech, already modified to fit. I just looked, and it appears he has stopped selling them, but I bet he can still tell you which ones need to be modified and by how much.

              You have to run guide plates, which have to be modified as well because the intake ports are higher and get in the way. The 3400 needed 4 rockers modified to clear the lower intake. If you look at a 3400 lower, that will tell you which 4 because the underside of the lower is ground in the spots that will be hitting.

                sappy why do you think that you would have to have guide plates? the lx9 has fulcrum non-roller tip rockers as it is.

                  Because the LX9 rockers have a pedestal with a notch in them, and a corresponding grove in the heads to keep the rockers from rotating. No aftermarket rockers have this same notch, therefore they will all need guideplates to keep the pushrods aligned.

                    so you would rather mess with guide plates instead of having Self-Aligning rockers?
                    Dart bbc stuff is like what most people I've seen and what your taking about with the guide plates here's some pics of what I found.


                    still I would rather go with self-aligning.

                      No one makes self aligning rockers to fit our app, so its not a matter of what we want.

                            help me here then... is it the stud size your worried about? or is it that no one has found a set that they could swap out the fulcrum support and needle bearing with the stock ones? ..... I really think that would work. and if it wasn't right on you could boar out the rocker and build a shim for it to take out any bearing clearence issues.

                              I've taken a stock one apart, and I just don't see trying to make it work with an aftermarket rocker.
