  • 3100 valve springs

ok i was just wondering bout this. i have stock 3100 springs on my engine running bout 9 psi of boost. i ran ls6 comp cam springs and they killed my lifters so i went back to stock. im rebuilding the engine again because of bottom end problems and i noticed that 2 pistons have small marks in them from the valves. im guessing i floated em. now what im wondering is if anyone else has ran ls6 comp cam springs and had the lifters collapse. i wanna run em again but dont want to collapse the lifters....

Were they stock lifters, or were they redone ones with the LSx lifter springs?

I think that is strange because many people have ran LS6 springs on stock lifters. It certainly isn't too much pressure for them unless they are bad to begin with. That is what I would guess, or oiling passages are partially clogged? What I don't understand is how you can run stock springs with the MMS S1 turbo cam and 9 psi.

Im wondering if you changed your timing chain set. Did you use spacers under the valve springs? What is the setup with the ls6 and now with the stock springs as far as valve train is concerned? what is the comp cam ls6 spring part number you used?

What head gasket are you using?

I've rarely seen a defective lifter unless they were rebuilt.

you shoulda searched, people have been talking about the LS6 springs not fitting for many years.. lol

the 26986 springs would be ideal, i'd go back to those.

26986? Those aren't LS springs. 26915 and 26918 are LS springs. Yellow LS6 springs need LS seats and different seals. I use different seals with a metal sleeve on them.

                    LS1 seats and '91 Cavalier 2.2 exhaust seals (12).

You'll have to enlarge the holes in the LS1 seats to fit over your guides.

I thought you had to enlarge them for the 3.1 seal setup, not the 2.2.

the 2.2 seals and modified LS1 seats are for the bigger stem later model 3x00's, if he's got early heads the LS1 seats should fit just fine and i think in that case he'd use 3.1 seals.

I didn't mention the older stuff, seems like hardly anyone uses pre-99 3x00 stuff.
