  • need some advice on bearings...

My 3500 crank is being machined to use 2.100 "big-journel" small-block chevy conn-rods. The rod "big-end" will need to be narrowed to fit the width of the new journels.

Question.....can a set of small-block chevy "big-journel" bearings be simply machined to match the width of the conrods. Other than possible issues with bearing locking tabs, what other problems would occure from this?
Took a break from working on the car. Got some better tools, got a better shop, got a better job... Its time to burn metal!

None that I can think of. Just make sure the fillet radius on the crank journals is done properly and the associated chamfer of the rod bore is restored. The bearing should be "trimmed" to the chamfer of the rod bore, not to the very edge of the bore. Oh, and ARP rod bolts/studs of course for maximum cap retention.
