  • suggestions on engine build

so im buying a 97 gagt on saturday and the engine is junk. dont know what is wrong they just said that it doesnt run. im picking the car up for $225. tranny is freshly rebuilt. but that doesnt matter. what im wanting to know is should i do a large port swap to intake and heads off a 00+ car ( i can find the parts for about $300) with a 3400 stock tb, or should a just get a stock 3400 (which i can get for $100 with a bad head gasket). im thinking about running it with iron head psitons but i dont know what kind of compression i will have with either. i want to stay with stock head gasket thickness. and i also was looking at the street/strip 3100 cam from wottech. any possible horsepower estimates would be great, and what combo to use. thank you for your input

i say 3500 swap. it already looks like you'll have to dig in that far anyway.

i can get a 3500 for 220 dollars. but dont i have to change alot of other stuff to get that swap done. or it is just bolt in and deal with the exhaust. by the way whatever way i go i will be getting headers and dual exhuast. and i already have the CAI that will be going on it
