  • Wastegate & Controller and BOV

3500, Min 6Psi (stock engine so wont have to much boost)

Precision Turbo 61mm (says 60 AR on it)
I tried to take all measurements with a Micrometer, (cheapy one)
Big end of compressor fins seems to be 82mm and small 61mm
Big end of Turbine fins seems to be 73mm and small 61mm.

What size of Wastegate should I use? I see 34 up to 66mm etc
    What size Bov ?
What is a good but fair price controller?

Lastly, I have seen (thanx to many here) the compressor maps,

But it is just not sinking in?

How to use them? WTH does it all mean lol?

how to use them is simplified with the squirrel perfomance turbo calc.

basically, you'll want to keep your engine in the most efficient island while in boost, that way your intake temps don't get too out of hand(power loss and detonation are bad things ).

with a good idea of how efficient the engine is before turbo, you will get a rather good number for what it would look like boosted.

Im running a Tial 38mm external WG. it should be plenty for what you need it for. any larger is for more of a Race application (huge turbo w/ ALOT of boost).

As for BOV it doesn't really matter, you can find generic adjustable ones from www.siliconeintakes.com. the BOV only starts to matter when you run alot of boost, the more boost you run the stronger BOV spring you need to keep it shut and not leak boost but 6psi is nothing.

Are you looking for a Manual Boost Controler (MBC) or a Electronic Boost controler (EBC)? i had a electronic but sold it and bought a MBC. I have a Turbo XS Dual MBC if your interested.... New ~$110 i will do it for $60 shipped. I had it on my WRX Sti for about 2 weeks and took it off to get my diff and trans service done and just never put it back on (it was still under warrenty, didnt want to void the warranty if the dealer saw it)

Have been thinking EBC but not decided yet.
So a 38mm wg, and I want it with the LOWEST psi I plan to run (6psi) then raise boost with the controller, correct?

thats correct. I will be honest with you i had a EBC but it was a Pain in the ass getting it set properly... infact i couldnt get it set properly, thats why i sold it and got a GOOD MBC.. its a Ball and spring setup not a bleeder. the EBC you have to set the Wastegate duty cycle and a few other things and honestly its a headache i got frustrated and sold it (i bought it used from a buddy so not a big loss (Greddy Profec B)) I honestly like to MBC's better, set it and forget it.

I will give you one guess on what my buddy replaced his EBC with after he sold it to me? lol

think its correct? (most info came from your files )

TCE TB should be here soon

i've found that you can play with the boost limit value and have very little to no effect on the power curve...

funny thing: change the "valve opening/closing based on" from .50 to seat-seat...

                      quite a radical change...

so i would hazard a guess at the real numbers being between the two. looks to be a beast of a motor.

I too noticed this, must change to Pressure ratio at the same time to see any reasonable change at all.

I wouldn't use a 6psi a spring and control it to 14psi - you generally don't want to double the boost over your spring pressure. Use a spring that closely relates to you desired level, then you can bump it up a little with the controller.
