  • 2.8 Vs 3.1 Questions

    I’m looking into putting a 60° V6 in to my son’s Chevette.

I have a line on a 1992 3.1L & 700R4 Tranny out of a Camaro. This engine I’m sure has Multi Port Injection, and I won’t be able to get the ECM and all the other sensors to use it. I’d rather carbureted it any way.

So my question, are the 2.8 & 3.1 the same other than the piston stroke?

Will an intake manifold from a 2.8 fit a 3.1? Also I will need to get an oil pan of a 2.8l 4WD S10. Will this also bolt up to a 3.1L.

Sorry if these are stupid questions, I’m a Big Block Mopar guy and this is the first time I have dove into the GM 60° V6 world. Can you find aftermarket performance parts for these engine?

Also does anyone know if GM every put the Saginaw 4 speed with there
60° V6 Motor (2.8/3.1/3.4)? On another post I was told that Speed Way makes an adapter that goes from a 60° V6 to a Turbo 350, and this would work with my Saginaw 4 speed.

    Thanks

A carb is easy just find an intake. The only difference between the 2 motors is the stroke, piston pin height, piston dish and larger cast iron oil pump and pickup.

If you use a 4X4 S-10 pan you need a pickup tube form a 91-92 Isuzu Rodeo. Melling sells it.

Use a T5 manual rather than a 4 speed. Everything is a bolt on and off the shelf parts work. Plus you get overdrive. They are easy to find and dirt cheap.
