  • Custom Engine Question

    I'm making a custom engine using a 3100 block. It has iron head pistons with aluminum 3100 heads and a custom cam from WOTTech.com.

    I plan on using propane as my main source of fuel or using bi-fueling option. do you think this kit from the site I'm linking would work?

    I'm looking for power as well as decent gas mileage.

    Thanks guys

    Well the best option is to get a liquid propane injection system. Then you can run very high compression and get the same or better power and mileage as gas. Not only does propane have a higher octane rating but if it injected as a liquid it is extremely cold and that makes even more power.

    A vapor type system like you linked to works fine and is the standard for propane power engines. Keep the compression ratio high and also buy a cam that helps build cylinder pressure and you will get good performance with it. If you build an engine to run on both gas and propane then you will compromise propane performance in order for the engine to have an acceptable compression ratio to run on gasoline.

      Sorry, I just realized to I linked to the wrong site I found. That was the first place I had found and later on had found this one

      This one as I understand is liquid propane injection.

      Edited to add;

      I should also mention I am planning to build this engine to run solely on propane, so that as you mentioned I can get max power out of it without having to worry about whether it will run on gas also.

        No I don't think it is. In order to keep the propane liquid it will need to be pressurized to over 250 PSI which means a special fuel pump and lines.

        Rousch Racing sells a kit for Ford Trucks which is a true liquid injection system that has a special tank, pump, lines and injectors. That is the type of kit that would be optimal.
