    • This stuff ain't available anywhere on the net, that I can find anyway:

Now I need to track down a 3100/3400 manifold to work with

Cut the ears off the M62 and it'll fit way down in there.

How much bigger is the M90?

      • From personal experience the injectors will definately mess with you. The m90 is quite a bit bigger. Don't forget also the way the LIM, heads, and valve covers are integrated together. This complexity is ultimately what gave me give up my project and start back on a front mount plan instead like my old EM setup.

        • Kinda made some progress. If you remember back when I was messing with a way to create a 3D view from just standard photos (maybe I didn't mention it all fully?), but wasn't having good success... Well, the program I was using has improved significantly over the last year and I was able to create a pretty decent 3D mesh model of a lower manifold. I still need to add some more views to it to make it better, and then transfer it over to CAD to be able to model it there. But, I definitely think there is some major potential in what I currently have. Check out the video below.

          • That's very cool. I'm curious to see who that turns out for you. What was the name of the program?

I have not been to the junkyard to pick up a donor LIM for measurements.

In the meantime, I've decided to move towards a front-mounted supercharger, I plan on replacing/modifying the AC bracket and mouting the supercharger down there. Switching to a slim fan on the radiator will provide enough room. So I'm working on the brackets & adapter places for that now.

Still want to do a custom UIM though.

I have turned back to a front mount as well. I however, will be retaining my AC and doing a setup almost identical to the Eaton/Maggie kits, just with my whipple instead, and different routing of the inlet/outlet pipes....

              • yeah that LNJ intake is going to take some a different setup all together to get the TB tied into the S/C , the good thing is you have room under that "one off " hood

                • Yeah, I am looking to retain AC as well even though it doesn't currently work. By no means am I giving up on a LIM-mounted supercharger, i love the way it look looks perched atop the motor, but I can be boosted much faster going this particular route.

                  • this build is always going to be impossible, how ever if it did take off, the market should be there to suppourt a intake to mount a s/c on.

                      Hardly impossible. Difficult? Sure.

I picked up Robert's 3400 top end, so now I have some materials on hand to use for a layout. (as well as an upgrade to my 3100)

Looking at it, I'm thinking about breaking the manifold down into smaller "modules"

I'd make a plate for each head, that seals the valvecover, covers the pushrods, and has intake & coolant ports. Would likely also contain the injector bosses. Each plate would be ~1-2" thick, not quite sure yet. But it would be shaped similar to the existing LIM, clearanced for the rods, rockers, etc... Then I'd have a plate that bolts in & covers the floor of the Vee between the heads, Effectively closing off the crankcase & coolant system, and making the valley easier to "work with"

This would set you up to make a traditional fabricated manifold, or do whatever you want with. Would also make ITB's within easy reach.

The nice thing? The heads are a mirror of each other so I'd only need to make one "plate" pattern Just cast & machine two pieces.

We could also free up a lot of space by moving the injectors around...they really get in the way. Has anybody thought about drilling an injector port in the head itself, and running the injectors through the valvecover? (custom valvecover, of course) That would free up a shitload of room for running a supercharger or whatever between the heads.

                      Just a bit of brainstorming...

                      • Your going to kill my pretty 3400 upper.lol It's cool im glad it went to a good home.I think im going to finish polishing my 3500 and have ben port it and use that.I still need to ask jon if he has those ac brackets for you.
                        Why not just procharge it?Save a intake.lol j/k

                        • I like the 2 part manifold ideal. A base to seal the valley and different tops to bolt on to that. Have one that is a basic mpi and another one as a base for a m90 or m112. Another one could be like a dual plane carb intake but have a top plate that swaps from 2bbl, 4bbl, or tbi.

I know machining and welding would most likely keep it high but if it was $200ish I would buy a tbi intake that mates to aluminum heads tomorrow. Pretty sure Geoff would too for his dime or trooper.

Hah, I'm not even thinking about price yet but $200 would be on the low side of cost for something like this. Hell of a lot of machining involved.

I have an M62 here that I don't even think will fit, M90 is probably out, M112 sure as hell is not going to fit, lol. Carb intakes are a definite possibility if there's a demand for it, but not something I have a personal interest in.

Might have to look into the modern twin-screw s/c's... those things are really compact. And they sound amaaaaazing

                            • Yea I am looking into the possibility of putting an M90 or M62 on to a 660. Your only option if you want it to fit under a stock hood is to use the stock LIM and weld on a blower mounting plate to it. This is how they did it back in the day. There was no such thing as a blower manifold so you took an aftermarket single plane or dual quad intake and welded on a cast or machined blower mount. I was mulling over the Fageol blower, which is a nice unit, but it is best suited to 3L or less and it is costly compared to a used M90 or M62 which can be had for under $100. The M62 is about 5/8" shorter and 1" narrower than the M90 which may help when it comes to mounting it to a 660. But all this will take me some time since I have enough stuff on the go right now. Long term plans are to make my S-10 a Turbo 3500 and the Trooper will stay TBI and iron heads but use a blower.
