  • Once you get the design down, contact these guys http://www.reliablecastings.com/ and see what it would cost to make it a reality. I wonder if Marc has ever used them as they are based out of Cincinatti, OH.

As the 3400/3500's are dead by GM standards, I wonder if they would release any design information that would help with this project?

    • The casting is cheap. The tooling is not.

      • Forgive the noob question but is this something that could be made via DIY sand casting and a backyard foundry or would it just be too complex a part?

"It's your car. Do with it what you wish, but as you enter this unknown world you will need to invent the wheel all over again. For the adventurous and those that are backyard mechanics who have nothing but time you might like this. Most have plenty of frustrating moments and the process usually takes significantly longer then what anyone could imagine. The end result of this conversion is completely up to you." - Jon McCullough of BMCautos.com

        • we actually have a fairly new member on W-body who does sand casting for stuff like strut bar mounts and similar things... i may need to point him here to see what he thinks.

If you go back a page I posted a manifold I made for the Mazda B6 4 cylinder: http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthre...l=1#post439597

I'm capable of making both the tooling & the casting, at least in moderate volume. I work out of my backyard, but I have a lot of equipment & can work on a larger scale than your average backyard caster. Would need to find someone or a shop to do the machining though, I don't have the tools for that.

At this point, I'm waiting to get to the junkyard so I can pull a LIM & UIM. I need one on hand for doing my own CAD work as well as planning out the tooling. Cash is tight for me at the moment though. If its a supercharger intake we all want, I'll need to locate one too again for layout & planning. A modular design is a good possibility too.

I figure this is as good a place as any to throw out my plan/question. I've been looking for someone to make my design a reality somehow. Yes, my design is a rip-off of the 90 beretta pace car design, but who cares, I just want to make the thing. Can anybody help make this happen?

                Thanks!

                • well hello, TPI, haven't seen you since the 85 IROC disappeared.

it looks like it's going to be a bit taller than a stock UIM, but enough to cause concern about hood interference?

                  • I'm thinking the Lower should be designed similar to the old TDC lower, or at least use the same flange between the upper and lower so you don't need custom gaskets.

                      • Wife and kids are gone for a couple days, so I may have some time to work on my CAD design some more. I have a few other things I need to get done as well, but I should be able to make a little more progress on this.

                            • this idea just came to me snice this is suppose to replace the upper and low manifold maybe it could be clearanced so we could use larger ratio SBC rockers if someone asked that yet.

                              • Anyone have any progress?

I obtained an Eaton M62 and had it laid on top of my 3100, I believe it'll sit down there nicely, might have to play with fuel injector fitment a little bit.
