  • A few hybrid build questions

Hopefully my financial aid refund will come soon and the fa*kin machine shop calls me to pick my parts up...

Anyways. I have a couple unresolved issues that I need feedback on.

Dont mean to order help from you guys, please bear with me, FA is worrying me...

I will be building a 1st gen 2.8/3400 engine, megasquirt and boost, 5.85" SBC h-beams (eagle), 3100 pistons, and hopefully, a nice turbo grind cam...
    Im shooting for ~300 WHP

    1) What head studs should I use? 3X00 or 1st gen?

    2) Will a T-5 handle ~300 WHP without beefing up?

    3) How long should I expect the block to last before any major problems?

    4) How do I calculate the pushrod length that I will need?

    5) Will I have port velocity problems? The heads have a light port job and nice exh. polishing.

    1 - 3x00 head studs
2 - It should handle it w/o issues
3 - forever (unless its a small journal 2.8 (pre-86?), in which case, not very long)
4 - only accurate way is to by a pushrod checker (ie, adjustable pushrod) and measure them
5 - I dunno on that one, although I doubt you will have any issues

      2) is it a world class T5?

      3) as long as you keep the oil level right and use good oil you'll be fine. Don't go revving it to 7K every day though.

      5) No

I admire you RWD 3500 junkies Thank you for your support!
@ Superdave, 2) im thinkin of usin a T-5 out of an f-body with stock internals and an
        upgraded clutch.

        @brad, 3) its a 1988 block

And, is ~300WHP a realistic power level for the stated mods, or how much should I expect roughly?

As for the block itself, what prep is necessary (machine work wise)

with boost, 300 WHP won't be hard.

If you use a T5 get one from a 4th gen V6 Fbody (93-95 i think). It should be the world class version that might hold up better. The T5 is well known to be a weak link though. That's why i'm going with a 4L60E in the Camaro instead.
