  • ? regarding Exhaust size

Looking to build Log Style headers for my 3500 Turbo App.

Will this be ok in size?

1.5" T's and 90* and piping to the Turbo?
Actual inside Diameter would be 1.65"

Or I guess I could use the 1.5" for the headers and then maybe 2.5" for the crossover and make my own T and go 2.5" to the T04 Turbo inlet?

2.5" inch crossover sounds WAY too big...

I know most of the guys run 1 5/8 piping for headers on these cars so it sounds to me like anything from 1.5"-1.65" will be fine.

I would run either a 2" mandrel or a 2.25" at most for the crossover and do a 2.5" downpipe (3" if it fits but 2.5" is sufficent). Keep in mind if the Manfold outlets are 2" or smaller then i would run 2" X-over to keep exhaust gas velocity as high as possible. plus it makes it much easier to fit your downpipe in there.

here is a nice pic of the Crossover collecting to the turbo (found on clubgp)

that's actually nice. most of the attempts i've seen look like someone went half-assed, as soon as they got to the turbo flange: just a horrible 90* outlet.

Ya, that looks nice, however, with the space, or lack of, that I am dealing with, I was planning on (looking at that Pic) rotate the Turbo 90* Counter clockwise, T off crossover to a 90* up to inlet flange, 90* out to down pipe, from ram air hood 90* inlet then down to intercooler and back.

            Lol, can ya picture that?

Main reason is if I install like in the Picture, I would need a 180* turn from inlet of hood to inlet of compressor

i need a 3d model or cross sectional drawings to figure out what you're saying

the more i think about it, the more that setup looks like the optimal way of making a single underhood turbo system...

nice and smooth bends, not too many of them...

the only issues i see with all of that is routing the piping to the intercooler, though the compressor is clocked the way i would want it to do so... also am not sure if i see a wastegate or not...

too bad it's hooked up to the fail motor...

good point, if I were to do it that way, where would I put the external WG?

the External WG is on the rear pipe of the X-over and dumps externally.

Idealy you would want to have the WG connected to both front and rear banks of the Xover but with the space its easier said then done in most cases. Mine is off the front bank mostly.
