  • Good lifter replacements

My TGP (Gen II 3.1) bottom end needs new lifters as a couple are completely collapsed, but I've seen nothing but cheap Chinese junk for replacements from the parts stores and such. I've searched on here, and haven't found anything conclusive.

Does anyone know of a good set of replacement lifters?

Also, are Gen II lifters the same as Gen I lifters? I'd think that the flat tappet setups are the same, but I'm not sure. If they are, then I can look into mild cam upgrades as well, as several (all?) flat tappet cams come with new lifters anyway. Might those include 'good' lifters?
One last Q... I've never replaced flat tappet lifters without replacing the cam also, is it even okay to do that? (new lifters on old cam)

I thought I was done with this flat tappet junk but this engine was in the right place at the right time. My 'real' build will have a roller cam (Gen III), but it's easiest and cheapest to use what I have now, for now.
If you have valid info, please share. Thanks!

Same as gen 1 and since you don't have a 93-95 SFI iron head 3.4, you can use any flat tappet cam and lifters for a 60V6. ForcedFirebird is into the flat tappet cams and can get any grind if you want one specific to your app. You can use new lifters on an old cam but not a new cam on old lifters when it comes to flat tappets.

      Thanks Ben.
I'd prefer to only replace the lifters and leave the cam alone. I'm trying not to go too far into this engine so I can save the hassle and money for the later build (and for the stout turbo setup that is being fabbed starting this week). However, if that's the only way to get a decent set of lifters, then it's a good excuse for a little more bump. I'd think if decent lifters are available in a cam kit, then they should be available by themselves, but with the way business works, I wouldn't be surprised to find out otherwise.

Well whaddya know. When I enter 2.8 into Summit instead of 3.1, I get more lifter options.

There are the big names there, but that doesn't mean they're not made in the land of cheap junk. I'll have to give them a call (unless someone can tell me for sure).
