The biggest problem of most 2.8/3.4 v6 engines are the restrictive intake on the DPFI, but your S10 has TBFI, whch is ALOT more open. However, the fiero has a more powerful engine reguardless of the intake crap. I have a fiero and an extra fiero engine. I'm getting an s10 blazer soon and I'm going to do a long block. How much power are you looking for? What will your S10 be used for? Need more torqe (bottom end and towing) or is it for racing or something? How much depends on your goals for the vehicle. Just know, like anything else, the more power you want, the more $$$ it'll cost!

how much money are you wanting to spend? The 2.8 can be a real torquey motor, which gives great acceleration, but can bog out at high speed. if your THAT crazy about top speed (in a truck??), then go for a 3.4 DOHC, but you'll loose any or all your towing and your acceleration with be a little less on the bottom end.

Bottom Line 50 hp of nitrous is the best bang for the buck on the vin r. I highly recommend a 400 cfm tbi from holley.
For 500 you can get true headers, holley tbi, and a stand slone ecu. Just watch ebay like a hawk, it aint hard.

Make a ram air kit that goes behind your grille with a scoop and get a K+N or other high performance filter. A cam and lifter swap will be a BIG help over stock from any company (edelbrock, crane, G.M) If you have TBI go with the TB off of a 4.3L engine and the injectors. A good cheap upgrade is change the valve springs to the ones from G.M from the 3.4L conversion, should let you rev higher without valve float. Maybe change you diff to a higher ratio. What tranny do you have (4,5spd manual or 3,4spd auto???) Do you know what gears you have in your diff? What year is the truck? With what you have and waht extra you will put in you might be able to hit 200kmh tops. With my carbed truck I hit about 185kmh (35 kmh wrapped around a second time on the speedo) but that was it. But mine had 3.08 gears but if I had 2.55 or 3.73...............
Why pay someone to do the work, it costs alot and you don\'t learn s*^t!!!

you can get prom chips for those. I know accel used to have them. If you jack up the rear end turn the drive shaft and count how many times it turns for every 1 turn of the tire, if it is less than 3.5 turns than get a higher ratio rear end (you will feel the difference, but you will burn more fuel) other than that I would do the top end mods (cam, lifters and springs, new head gaskets and other gaskets). For the lifters, set them while the engine is running, back off till you hear ticking then tighten till noise goes away then 1 and a half more turns.

I have a friend who used the 2.8 for marine racing. It would top 8,000 rpm.

The main issues are breathing and cam. You need a hotter cam, and you need a free exhaust. Those are the best improvements if you want more top end on a budget.

A free exhaust means a free-flowing exhaust. You can port your exhaust manifolds, put on a pair of headers or whatever. The muffler is a whole discussion.
What I used was a Moroso racing muffler with 2.5" pipe. Flowmaster 80 is a good one and there are many more. I wouldn't use a glass pack because they don't flow as well as a good spiral design or the Flowmaster.

Chips are highly overrated. Some guys swear by them, but I have not seen a 2.8 to date that got any significant increase in power by an after market chip.
