  • The cam has arrived, the cam has arrived!

Got home last night and the box is here.

Nice shiney camshaft and some neat-o pushrods in two different sizes.

I guess one is for the left bank, and the other for the right.

I'm guessing the short ones are for the front and the longer ones for the back 'cause they are harder to reach.

And the valve springs have a silly smaller top (or is it bottom) than the other end.

I guess one for exhaust and one for intake. Then again perhaps they are front and back too.

This is going to be fun!!!

Actually one set is for exhaust valves and one set is for intake valves. I forgot which though, so someone here will chime in to let you know which is which.

IIRC, the exhaust pushrods are longer than intake ones.... at least for a stock cam.

Cool, I love new stuff. Especially performance parts that are expensive.

Really must figure out which pushrod goes where. Otherwise your going to risk punching an intake valve into your piston, not good at all.

Have you figured out how to lash the pushrods into the hydraulic lifters yet?

That is also very important. Not too hard though, fairly straight forward.

        Good luck installing!

Umm, just pull out the factory pushrods and remember which one belongs to I or E and go from there, just be careful 'cause the layout is different on some cylinders, cant remember which...

You will know if you put the rods in wrong for sure when you try to start the car lol. Make sure you turn it over by hand even if you think you have them in the correct order - nothing like firing up a modified 660 for the first time and realizing you just wasted a lot of hours.

The springs are called beehive, the small part gos on the top and are shaped as such to get more lift with the same install height.

Never know. I had a customer with a failure like this when he had a friend help.

Always rotate the engine by hand first - even if you think you know it all, only takes a second

I was gonna say I know Eric on a personal level and yeah he was having some fun with it... LOL

I like the comment about the longer ones go in back because they are harder to reach... LOL

When this gets put in, I will strongly suggest doing ONLY a GM replacement timing chain, go with the 99 and older version for the 3400's and also if you wish send it out for cryo treatment like I did. Oh and use GM SBC 350 cam bearings... much wider to support all of the cam journal, thats on my list of to do's this year, and I'll see how my timing set has been holding up so far.

Rodney is going to have a field day trying to tune this thing...

I saw someone on another forum actually honestly ask if the fronts were intakes and rears exhaust.

Hey, on some 4 cylinders that's how it's setup, he just got a little confused about how the whole V thing works.
