  • i have some questions...

hi. my buddy just bought a 95 buick century. he got it for a steal too. anyway he does not know a lot about cars, so i figured i would teach him. one of the best ways i know is to build cars for performance. it has the 3100 but i am not sure if its a gen 2 or 3. also i know about the larger ports on the 2000+ cars intakes, but i was wondering about the roller rockers on the 96+ cars. i read the page on them but i was confused. what do i need to swap them out if i have the stamped ones. and does anyone know any other "junkyard mods" (taking parts off of other cars like the 00 intake) that make power?
    thanks

Since its a 95 and a 3100, it is a Gen3. As far as roller rockers, you need to check your heads to see if they have nothces at the rocker mounts to allow for the roller rocker pedestals. If you don't have the notches, then you need to swap heads to newer ones with the notches. There are a limited number of 95 heads that have stamped rockers but notches for the roller rockers. In 96, all heads got the roller rockers.

I could see a newer top swap possible with the motor. LA1 LIM, UIM, and heads should bolt up, but I'm not 100% sure. Wanting the newer UIM's usually does mean the LIM and heads may have to be used. For example, I know for my GA's LA1, to use LX9 heads, I need the LIM for them to bolt up.

Although a motor swap could be done to a newer 3x00 motor as well, but wiring may be an issue, since it is a 95 and OBDI.

The 00+ largeport UIM+LIM's will bolt onto the smallport heads but the ports won't line up perfectly. It's close enough that the gaskets will still seal though.

Wiring and powertrain control is a non-issue with a swap to the newer 3x00's. Just a few mecahnical hurdles that are easy to deal with. It's all covered in the engine swap area.

if it does happen to have the stamped rockers would these work?

thanks for the replys. motor swaps might be out of his range however head swaps might not be. i think just to get started prodjects that take a weekend would be good. although a motor swap might be good in a year or so... it has high miles.

so on that intake could you port match the current heads to atleast not be turbulent at that point? or is that too much.

also does anyone have any pictures of these notches in the rocker mounts so i can see what they look like?
