  • Question regarding valvetrain adjustments

Please tell me if this is correct or not.

If I were to swap the stock camshaft for a higher lifting camshaft, there will be more distance from the lifters to the rockers.

note - All figures are rounded to 3 decimals

    Stock lobe lift is 0.273"
Stock valve lift is 0.437" 1.6:1

New Cam lobe lift is 0.316"
New Cam valve lift is 0.506" 1.6:1

This translates into an extra 0.043" needed length in pushrods for proper lash.

If I were to use an MLS Steel Head Gasket at 0.027" thick instead of the stock gasket which is 0.060" thick, the required pushrod length would be reduced by 0.033".

Now I only need an extra 0.010" for proper pushrod length.

I will have the heads milled down 0.010" which would bring the pushrods required length back to stock. Also slightly increasing CR.

Is this an acceptable method of tuning the valvetrain? Or am I missing something?

Going with that thin of a headgasket will cause your pistons to make contact with the head and or valves.

As said many times before changing gasket thickness is simply a way to dial in a certain CR.
