  • Advice Needed - Custom/Functional Ram Hood Scoop

Who is a good supplier of parts for building a custom/functional ram air hood scoop intake system?

I need to browse for parts. Like a filter box or prebent aluminum tubing that is more oval shaped (due to a lack of height room under the hood).

The bulk of the intake system will be bolted above the plenum and gently curl around to the TB. Modified weather stripping will be used to mate the bolted scoop and tubing to the molded hood.

This is for a 3100 SFI 96 Grand Prix SE. So little space between the hood and the intake plenum. So I need well built professional parts that are easily customizable.

A few other questions I have,

How can I prevent sucking in too much rain/moisture? Since the system is closed to maximize the ramming effect, how do I drain off excess moisture since I can't fully prevent it from entering the intake system?

The bend in the tube between the hood scoop and the TB, can the volume at the bend increase to slow the air down as it makes the turn? or will this create a harmful vacuum buffer of some sorts?

Should I place the air filter near the hood scoop or closer to the TB? Just wondering if placing the filter nearer to the TB will help ram more air pressures.

Will I need to tune the ECU assuming the intake build is of high efficiency and rams air well at 60+mph?

And my last question for the time being.......Does WOT-TECH provide any plastic decals? Once all is said and done, I would like to advertise the supplier of parts I used to mod my ride. Something simple like a WOT-TECH decal for the intake grill in the hood scoop.

Thanks guys, no where else have I found such great advice and information then here.

I found one of my answers.....it's called a Ram Air Box w/ Filter.

Pretty expensive. I just might as well take my stock air box and hack it up to fit upside down, towards the hood scoop. Drop in a K&N filter.

i've actually seen this done on a 3rd gen cavalier... don't know how well it worked, but they also put cummins diesel badges on the hood, so someone was smoking something strong.
