  • Custom UIM vs PS pump - LX9 - need suggestions

    Brief background story;

Due to the Intercooler (inlet -outlet on opposite sides) I am wanting to flip the Uim 180*.

However, obviously, the PS pump is in the way.
I removed the PS reservoir but still about 3 - 4" short of clearance.
I could mount PS Pump where AC comp goes, but I really did want to keep AC.
I could get a spacer made, but, it may not fit underhood then and, would this effect my performance ??? (approx 3.5" )
Other thought is (if possible ) cut the snout of Uim, and have a custom straight snout welded on, would that work? possible? effect performance?

    .

If the snout was straight out I would have enough clearance.

What ideas can you come up with?

with a spacer, it essentially making the runners longer, so it will give a little bit more low-RPM torque...

if you can fit it underhood(or make a hole-in-the-hood streetmachine), that would be the easiest way to go.

Well I ran back to shop to measure, seems I wont have clearance to raise up Uim, will barely have clearance at all without raising lol, just my luck

So, is there a way to cut the snout off the Uim and have a straight one welded on? I will need an adapter for TB anyways?

if you know anyone who can weld aluminum well enough, then yes, you could go that route. since it's going custom, you might as well make a flange for it that supports the TB you want, or use the flange from the old one, weld it to the end, and use an adapter, depending on where you want to spend your money.

Im just reading this post and trying to figure out what the problem is.... Can you fill me in, i would be happy to come up with some helpfull ideas...

If i am understanding you correctly your wanting to spin the intake the other direction so the throttle body is facing the passanger side so that you can plumb the piping from a intercooler to the intake, is that correct?

                    ^^^^^ Correct,
The only place I can see to relocate PS pump would be where AC comp is, and I really wanted to keep AC.

I am trying to find someone who can cut off the snout, make it straight and weld it together with the flange from a 3400 Uim as well.
