  • Fiero 2.8, change to carb and to hei distributor

ok guys i know you are going to rag on me here, but i have so many questions about these 60 degree engines that i don't know where to begin.
i have an Lambo countach kc, donor 85 gt fiero, i want to put the biggest valves i can in the 2.8 iron heads, carburate it (biggest holley that will work) and hei dist. yes i know i can do an engine swap but, i would like to work with this 2.8!

please any correct input would be welcome:>)

What you have is what you get as far as heads for a carb right now. Only iron heads had carbs.

        ?

        why bigger heads?i thought the bigger the heads= less compression.smaller heads=more compression(ratio).am i wrong?

i think by bigger, he meant valves/ports, not the chambers...

The biggest valves from GM are the valves in the high output head, which are what the Fiero has stock. If you talk to/look up user Oreif on Pennocks Fiero Forum he had managed 220 crank HP 2.8 running a carb. Porting and polishing the iron heads, a cam and a better exhaust system will be needed to get to that power level.

              edit:
Found this 3.4L carb'd VS. 3.4L EFI Results by Oreif.

Well so far I think I'm running the biggest "tune-able" carb on the forum...
I'm running a holley 2v 500cfm on a 2.8, It's my daily driver and it pulls hard and runs good..

the 2.8's a good little motor and it doesn't get enough credit, even form this group of weirdos.. there all hooked on Alum heads, efi, and boost.. ugh
So you may not get the "good first hand" info your looking for here.
There's a few die hard Iron head, and carb guy here but there few and far between, and offten weirder then these other guys...
Good luck on your build and I give you a thumbs up in keeping it real..

Do you plan on swaping your cam? If so Engle has some good Carb cams for
this motor, also going to a 1.6:1 rocker out of the 3100 helps..
Your limited on your valve size due to the bore.

                  lol!

I had a carbbed 2.8 once, it would still spin the tires of my '82 S10 with 224K miles.

gas mileage sucked and it really did not like cold weather starts. I sold the truck and shortly after that the oil pump failed and it ended up in the junk yard.

Hell yes another carbed 2.8, Im running a 08007 holley 4 barrel 390 cfm on mine right now with an Edelbrock cam, does pretty decent. but Im still planning on a 3.2 boosted t3/4 set up running about 9-10 psi so ill play the fence on the subject on which route to go. but for now I would definitely put a cam in that motor and maybe port the heads a little when you have it pulled down.
