IMO, for idle and low RPM SFI is going to get you more response and MPG, since it sprays when the intake valve opens up for that particular cylinder, instead of all them on that bank. Once you hit high RPM's it's not going to matter as much since it all is happening so fast that to your eye the injector probably looks like it's spraying constantly probably like a TBI. Not sure how much MPG is actually gained if any from SFI vs MPFI.

Either one is better than carb/TBI since the fuel is sprayed right at the valve and doesn't have to travel down the intake and stick to the walls and puddle up.

If it's not a WHOLE lot more work then SFI would be cool to try out. In your case you're not swapping to a whole gen3 engine, just the top end, so you will lack the cam sensor that the factory PCM's use to calculate SFI. I'm not sure how megasquirt does it.

Yes, my MS on my 3500 is MPFI with just 2 injector banks.

        Isaac, thanks for the explanation
That clears up most things but one; in MPFI, when the injectors open for fuel on one bank, what happens to the fuel that gets sprayed into cylinders that have their intake valves closed?

Once im done with the gen 1, which will be in a good long time, ill start a gen III buildup, in which I will try the sfi system. It uses the regular megasquirt with an sfi daughterboard that makes calculations on cam and crank sensor positions.

Same thing that would happen with TBI. It might stay in the air long enough to be sucked in, but some will hit the port and valve...

efi is the way to go! sfi isnt anything for power. just emissions and gas mileage. batch fire isnt a bad thing.

I've squirted both a 305TBI and a 2.8MPFI, feel free to shoot me a PM if you run into any walls. Good luck!
