I have been collecting what I need to do a 3.4 swap in my Fiero for a while now, and have almost everything but the block its self. A mechanic friend of mine stopped over for a few beers last night, and as we were talking, he suggested using a GM 3.5 pushrod motor. Says he thinks it's the same platform as the 2.8, 3.4 etc, and that everything will bolt on. Since I'm planning on picking up my block, and heads next weekend, this would be my last opportunity to change my plan.
Now for the benefit of anyone not familiar with how the Fiero swap is usually done, the intake is swapped onto the 3.4, the plug is removed, and a distributor installed, and the stock 2.8 ECM is used. Everyone else who has done this has also swapped the timing cover, water pump, pulleys, etc, but that is not my plan. I am (at least going to try) going to keep the same wp, timing cover, and serpentine setup. Now the question is this, will the 2.8 multiport intake work on the 3.5 block, and is this block provisioned for a distributor, like the the 3.4? Will Fiero headers bolt to these heads, or would/ could I use my 3.4 iron heads? And finally, running through a multi port, using a 2.8 ecm, with Fiero headers, and if necessary, usion 2.8 heads, would the added displacement even be worth it, or would I just be better off using the 3.4. The thing that I personally liked best about this idea, was that it gave me the chance to start with a MUCH newer motor.
Thanks
