  • what else to do 83 2.8 s-10 blazer

I have had the motor rebuilt 60k (.060 out) ago we installed the edelbrock cam, HO heads, had sbc valve springs installed in the heads. we also installed electric fans and got rid of the smog crap. I am changing out the intake for a stock one that has had the heat riser welded shut and I smoothed the passages. I have to say I hate this rochchester carb any thing out there that would work better but not break the bank?. I'm running 31" in tires and just want some more go on the street. it does great on the hills in 4 low lots of power. open to all ideas that keep a carb, including cams, heads, etc. also if I just wanted to change over to a 3.4 do they have a carb intake for it and what would I pull it from in the first place. what is the HP difference between the 2.8 and the 3.4? and if that didn't work what are the details for stroking the 2.8 is is just 3.1 crank and rods or ? I know there ara alot of ?'s thanks for any answers ps I don't want to try changing gears just yet.

    Wow lots of questions.

I hope you used the 86+ FI heads with all that work done to it.

The 3.4 uses the same intak as a 2.8 so yes they make an intake for it.

Rough numbers but 83 2.8 is something like 109 HP and the 3.4s are like 160ish.

search for the 3.1 swap info its been posted a few times.

      where to find a 3.4

I know there are front wheel drive 2.8 blocks and rear wheel drive. are there the same motor mount issues with the 3.4? what vehicles would have the block I need for rear wheel drive. and up to what year can I use.

The RWD 3.4 was found in 93, 94, and 95 camaros and firebirds. Some of the 95s did come with a 3.8 but it will have the size on the intake so you can tell by just looking.

I said the dreaded 3.8 on 60degreev6, lmao

If you dont want to break the bank, stick with the 2.8, but if you do want to swap your engine, find an ironhead 3.4, stick your manifold, cam, (did I hear HO heads?), and all your power goodies on it and you will more than likely be impressed. In the meantime, try finding a better carburetor. I think edelbrock or holley make a cool carb/manifold setup for your engine and it is usable in the 2.8 and 3.4 (ironhead) engines.

The 3.4 and any motor made past some time in the 80's were all HO heads. (86+)?

That all depends on the what the heads come off of as for the year they went with bigger valves. In s-series it was 86 and I'm 99% sure everything else by that time also. I don't know the exact time the fieros got them but I think they were first then maybe f-bodies, and finally s-series.

First...read the "Poop" on the V-6 History here...

...then look up the business phone number for Godwin-Singer on the link below...or better yet...send them an email via their info listed at the same link and address your questions to "James". He is the main mechanic at the place and has had his S-10 since the early 1980s when he was in high school. He converted his S-10 over to the 3.4L engine and automatic tranny setup WITH the EFI working via the computer hardware from a 93-95 Camaro. He has done some amazing mods to the truck and managed to get it all to work... A/C included.

If you treat the man with some deference and respect... maybe he'll clue you in on everything he did. I would try the email route with your concerns first before calling, though...and for God's sake ...organize your thoughts and questions about what you want to specifically know and don't ask him for stuff in vague generalities of he'll tell you to, "Go Take a Flying F*ck at a Rolling Donut!"

EDIT: ...or he may also tell you, "Go Take a Flying F*ck and the MOON!" ... one of the two...
