the next best bang for your buck would be pulleys. underdrive crank pulley and an alternator pulley (not necessary)[SIGPIC]

^^ What Brad said. And full 2.5 mandrel exhaust and a good straight through muffler... Then maybe a full 3500 top end, cam, etc when you want to really get serious about it...sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

hmmm turbo ay? sounds really involved...im sure its not as simple to slap one on lol...trying to get to maybe 240 260 hp ss/gtp numbers. i want to stay all motor for now maybe f/i down the road when its not my dd anymore
issac and brad....y go with headers over my DP? how much difference is it gonna make...i have a catback already...completing the 3500 top ends the next step? 3500 lim heads are the major components of that right...i guess im just trying to see the best way to get to my goalLast edited by ShortyDoo; 10-29-2009, 01:00 AM.

Headers flow significantly better than the log manifolds. They are your biggest restriction right now. Your DP helps some, but the exhaust has to get there first. Headers usually gain 15-20hp.-Brad-

i went through alot to grab the DP so i kinda want to keep it. also not trying to spend alot of money but willing to spend whats necessary. that said the 3500 exhaust manifolds peak my interest..any place you suggest to look? checked wottech zzp and didnt see any.
i dont think ive read anything good about going with an UDP so far. has something changed?
where hp wise do you guys suppose i am?

What car is this in? I take it's a 3400?
The 3500 manifolds will need a custom cross over pipe and custom downpipe. The logs just suck for flow, that that is your #1 restriction right now.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

well your goals are very unclear. theres nothing wrong with underdrives on low hp engines. hi revving big power engines will require the dampener. judging by your current mods u have bolt ons. cheapest will be a pulley. THEN headers. how much power do u want??[SIGPIC]

o sorry... wasnt sure if there was a garage or something here.
its a 2004 implala 3400
midnight - my goal is the 240 260 range without going forced induction. im not ruling that out for the future though just not in my plans as of right now. the reason i said that about under drives is a couple threads pointed to it potentially causing the engine to blow. those comments just had me on edge. on guy who posted had a 3100 so i figured it would be similiar on mine. as far as my current mods...they are just simple bolt on mods. working up my mechanical knowledge before i tackle anything internal since it is my ddLast edited by ShortyDoo; 10-30-2009, 12:28 AM.

Well if you want to stick with bolt ons, headers is the next step. Then full 3500 top end. Higher ratio rockers once they are available.
After than you'll need cam, and if you want higher compression pistons with the cam (should be considered together if going that route to get a cam and compression that will work together.)sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

Headers would definitely be the biggest next power gain. The stock log manifolds are just horribly restrictive. I understand you'd like to keep your DP... but there's no way you are going to get into the 240hp range with that. Sell it to someone else with lower power goals. Get yourself some headers and a full 2.5" exhaust.
After that, get the rest of the 3500 top end (heads and LIM). If you really want to reach that power level, you'll need all that top end stuff ported too though, not just stock stuff. Then you'll need a cam. That should put you over, at the crank at least, not sure if you were talking crank or wheel HP. With all that I'd say you'll need some bigger injectors (28lb trailblazers probably) and a retune. It will need it for the injectors at least, but all the breathing mods will change the efficiency and you'd pick up some HP from more fine tuning of the fuel and ignition timing for sure. All that could possibly get you to 240hp at the wheels. At that point you'd have enough power I'd stay away from the lighter crank pulley for sure. You'll want the harmonic damper.'97 Grand Prix GT 3800 (sold)
