I figure why spend over twice the $$$ for something you still have to change 3-5k miles... Seems kinda silly to me since if it filters too good, it will soon be a restriction. Now oil on the other hand, I believe is worth the extra cost.

true enough, i remember using a fram oil filter in my camaro, and the cheap (i will call it cardboard paper inside) got all loose and cause poor filtration. when i saw this, well that was it for fram. as for the oil, i use mobil one. pricy but its good synthetic oil. and these 3.4s can really use the good stuff.

yah um maybe there is a test out there showing that not all mobile 1 is created equal....meaning some of it is semisyn without notating it on the container....

I've been hearing more and more about mobil1 being sub-standard too. Some kinds not meeting the same specs they used to. I'm thinking about switching to that new castrol syntec edge stuff. I use a mobil1 oil filter though.

This was covered briefly in another thread earlier today.

All your standard over the counter synthetics (INCLUDING Mobil 1) are mineral based.

The top shelf stuff (Royal Purple, Lucas, Red Line etc.) are polymer based. And generally the price reflects that.

There ARE some Mobil 1 products available now that are not full synthetic, and even the original product is not, however it got itself classified as such.

              OK, OK....Now even I'm confused.

IDK what makes edge much better, but i really like the syntec. FYI the mobil1 filter is made by the same company that makes the KN filter....only diff is the KN has teh nut on it.

Well fact is, many car builders put Mobil 1 in their vehicles before they leave the factory. And it is used by more than 70 percent of teams in the three NASCAR series, can't be that bad dude.

if you believe that NASCAR or any racing team/league uses what you use in your engine, then you need to think outside the box a little more.
