What about an acura NSX trans? I think Archie adapted one of those to something once in a fiero... That might be a trans behind a high revver, but then again it was behind a V6 so maybe not.

West coast fiero is actually the ones that did that. It probably would work from an RPM standpoint, but it's a very long trans. There was frame notching involved on the fiero.

Would the motor build work? could you mix and match
          part to make it work?
          3.4 block
          2.8 crank
          3x00 top-end
          iron block 3.4 pistons?
          ??? rods

I don't know enough about it to know what would be the right parts
but it would be cool to see built..

iron block 3.4 pistons would not work. The rods are all the same, it's the pistons that would have to be custom for the 2.8 crank and 3.4l bore. Might as well get them high compression because shorter stroke makes it easier to run higher compression without pre-ignition because the speed of the piston is less which means less heat...

If going all out I'd do:
            3400 block.
            3500 heads
            2.8 crank & rods
            custom pistons, 12:1 or so
            rowdy ass cam...

Why can't you use iron head 3.4 pistons in a 3400 block? Or can you just not use it with the 2.8 crank?

The crank is the issue. Where the rod height is in the piston needs to be made like the 2.8 pistons...
