You can use a 3500 upper intake on a 3400/large port 3100 lower. That's it.

Yes you'll need a WOT cam for a 3x00. Pushrods yes will need to be custom, but Ben can take care of that.

3500 crank, uhm no not not really. You could offset grind the 3500 crank to 2.0 and get more stroke out of the 3500 if you wanted...

2.8/3.1/3100/3400 rods are the same.. pistons and crank are different for the stroke difference. I think they are 5.7"

Do you have any idea how much it is to offset grind 6 crank pins? Just the machine work is $1000 at very very least, could easily be 1500. And then the whole crank needs to be rebalenced as youve removed so much material. Might as well get it knife edged while your at it. I really want to offset grind a 3500 crank but its way too much money to justify on a motor (for in my case) will make more power than ill ever be able to use in a fwd configuration, or even in a fiero. We can make 500+ horsepower in a 3500 with a good snail and the right cam, why spend 1500 on somthing that may extend your rpm range by 500 rpms? I say 3500 with h beam forged rods, forged wiseco pistons, turbo cam and ported top end with a snail is the ticket to somthing that will make more power than youll ever use and cost you under 5k to build. The majic to making power is compression and airflow, the 3500 has the airflow down just need to toss some compression in there and it will be fun, garunteed.

you dont need a 3x00 block to put 3400 heads & intake on your 2.8, you just need custom pushrods & to stick with the stock cam or get yourself one out of a 3.1 fwd or a 3.1/3.4 ironhead (need confirmation on the 3.4 ironhead cam working though).

If he wants a roller cam which would help with high RPM durability, he will need a 3x00 block........

Don't worry, it's a non issue anymore. I found several engines/heads/ etc that I am going to be picking up. I went out of my way to find a few 3100's so I can use the block's.

also ghrarhg where are these highn umbers coming from for the size of the 3400 combustion chamber? on the CR calc it states 28.6 which is a bit bigger than the 3100's 26.4 if i remember correctly-can someone confirm or deny?
Those are the numbers I was talking about 28.6 = 3400, 26.4 = gen 2 2.8, and 48.5 = Fiero HO 2.8. So if he puts the 3400 heads on the fiero block the CR goes way up.
