I just bought a 05 3400 and the guy replaced the intake gasket just for the hell of it for some felpro. I personally had better luck with the updated GM then felpro, but it's replaced now. The thing is he used permatex ultra blue as rtv for between the block and intake. Do you think that stuff will hold ? I wouldn't use that myself (I use the black GM stuff), but just wondering if its safe to use or if I should just pull everything apart and restart over ? Thank you!

Its fine. As long as the surfaced were cleaned and de-greased. There is no load on the silicone all it has to do is keep oil from seeping out.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

i've never had a problem with that stuff on a 3400.

Personally I use the black stuff there, but then again I use black for anything I need. As long as the blue stands up to the heat in that area, I don't see why it would be a problem.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

I've used the red high temp stuff, and the black stuff that comes with the gaskets. Either one works. I don't see why this wouldn't. The picture on the front shows a valve cover, so it has to withstand heat from the heads, so I think you're fine.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

It will be fine. Blue or Ultra Blue holds up to very high temps & most automotive fluids. I've used the blue stuff for just about everything when I didn't have any other type of rtv available. My favorite for intake to block mating surfaces is Permatex "The Right Stuff" gasket maker.

Wow, they even have a special formula for imports... I didn't realize gasket surfaces in imports were that special, lol.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.

i was told by a GM tech that he wouldn't use the GM silicone. he made them give him a fresh tube of that ultra blue. when you think you have the mating surfaces clean, clean them at least 3 more times.Andy

the only time i've had problems with RTV is between the halves of a HM282. Even with a completely clean surface i still get the occasional drip.
