  • 3500 AC Delete

why havent i seen anything on this subject? and what can be done? i was thinking of getting a pulley of the right dimensions and making a bracket. short, sweet, simple.

    OR....

a belt short enough to bypass the lack of AC compressor.

looks like you just bypass the pulley all together. but you have a P/S pump, i do not. so that can kinda throw things off.

well taking a second look at things, your belt routing is pretty different than mine.

here is how mine goes according to the belt routing diagram on the engine

not getting it from that post. doesnt look like that would work without an AC pulley in place or AC delete pulley. all that looks like is you bypassed the PS pump pulley. thats not the issue in this case.

the 3500 has a boss up by the PS pump mount for another idler pulley, i'll check that out tonight on my spare engine to see if it could be used similar to the pic i posted..

The PS pump isn't deleted it's just not in the picture but what that post is trying to show is the idler pulley just above the crank pulley to the right was changed from a smooth pulley to a ribbed one.

In the attached image I have the stock belt routing then a red line where it routs now.

i just moddified a 3400 a/c delete because my motor mount bolts to the timing cover over were the pulley superdave is talking about would go. i just had to trim the bottom a little if i remember right.

found a picture of it on rockauto. its from a 02 grand am. this is the correct one right? it looks like i would need to flip it so it will fit the 3500 correctly.

oh, and by picture i meant do you have one of it on the 3500?

i looked to see what all cars that part fits, and it goes all the way down to 94, so i could definantly find this in the pull a part yard for dirt cheap!

Most if not all 94 3100 cars had AC standard.. I know Beretta's did in 94+. So I doubt you'll find that bracket unless someone put it on their car.

Yes that is upside down. You probably will also need the spacer that goes with the normal AC compressor, which can be had in the yard, or use some steel tube, or it won't align right. The spacer looks like an "H".

The bottom bolt that goes in the 3500 oil pan probably won't reach, but you can oval out the holes in the AC delete brackets with a long drill bit and a drill press so that you have the needed play to move it down enough to get the 3rd bolt hole in the oil pan. You'll have to probably oval out the top 2 holes as well to allow enough play. Barry did this when installing his 94 AC compressor onto his 3500, so you could do the same for the AC delete brackets.
