  • CAI Semi-complete

Well, I got it out of the engine compartment. At a cost of $116 for 2 45 deg 3.5" elbows and 2 3.5" silicone couplers, it's one of the most expensive mods I've done yet.

It feels like a waste. I doubt I'm going to shave off much time and I would have rather'ed spent the money on chip, line-lock, air-bags, or put it towards future steering to manual conversion, brake to manual conversion, or fuel system upgrades. It was one of those things that bothered me too, just had to do it.

OH yes, we ARE making it to track today! Now i feel bad about cracking on my wife in other post. She's buying me the gas. I found a guy local that sells 110 octane on the pump! Granted it's $7.75 a gallon..... Wifey bought me 5 gallons. Good thing too, last night I pumped out the gas from the tank....it pumped a cup, literally and was empty. I think the sending unit ain't reading right.

sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

well, if 95sleeperacheiva could take advantage of the octane and add more spark, it will make more HP.... but 110 is FAR beyond the point of diminishing returns for this motor.

There is no debate... most people just don't get it, that's all...

Well here's the problem... What area can he take advantage of the octane? He does not have higher compression, and adding a butt load of spark is only beneficial for a short period of time. I doubt adding as much spark as that fuel would allow you to, would add all that much HP since this is on a stock engine... at least going by what the pictures depict.

hence, FAR beyond the point of diminshing returns...

it would probably run as well on 93...

The point being that if buying $40 of fuel is such a major expense, then the CAI wasn't the only thing he absolutely wasted his money on.

Mine runs just fine on 93 and even THAT is likely a waste of money.

Just because you can run more advance w/o picking up knock doesn't mean you should.. Just a few degrees too much can cause a drastic power loss. Anything over 28 degrees @ WOT and mine is unhappy.

right, more advance can cause the flame front to actually fight the piston on its upward travel near the end of the compression stroke. but being a drag car, you'll see this as increased ETs... pretty easy to tell when there is too much...

No, no debate on octane. Yes you guys are right, I've gone over the same thing on spark plugs with people who try to buy the iridium plugs for more power on an all stock motor that only called for coppers.

According to my data recordings....2-3 years past on good 89 octane gas, I had some knock retard. I eliminated that with 93 octane. Since I have yet to get a reading....don't ask, I just keep forgetting to hook up my scanner and take a data log, I'm not taking chances on knock retard since I did do some things to the motor, IDK what it'll like or what its been doing for that matter. Track in a few hours, we'll see then.

                            BTW 5 gallons 110 octane, $39.57

ANd the CAI looks cool, don't I get 20 HP from looking cool!? :P

you get the 20HP when you stick the NOS sticker on the intake...
