  • 2.8L Camaro, edelbrock torker II...questions

    Hi all.

My car is Camaro '84 2.8 automatic with electric rochester e2se.
I just bought edelbrock torker II intake + 4bbl top. And going to get 390cfm holley.
Is there any problems with original "electric" distributor and automatic transmission handling? Do I have to get vacuum distributor? Anything else to think?

Does anyone have this compination in use? More HP? Fuel consumption?

That is a good question. I am not certain if that ECM is sophisticated enough to know if the stock mixture control solenoid is missing. You could always give it a try and if your timing does not advance then you can just grab a distributor for an earlier model Camaro or S-10. The Transmission is not an issue.

me and my friend tested this on his 85 tornado the redneck retarded way by unpluging the carb and seeing if it would run lol

the car did not idle but it ran-ish the computer put up codes for every thing carb related but the timing light showed it still advanced timing.

i think it was becuase it still has waights that get thrown out as the engine revs. what it will not do is advance timing at lower speeds or at idle not a big deal but fuel eceonmy will most likley suffer.

If I let that MAP sensor to be in working then it should tell to ECM that manifold pressure, right? And then it can work with old non vacuum distributor...? or is there something else that this ecm needs to advance timing?

as some have posted it will run... but just. you will be better off to put a vac advanced dissy so you can properly tune it and not use the lacking oe mech advance. with the much larger carb u will need to tuen this set up but will be very happy with it once you get there.

Agreed a reman'd distributor is cheep and you can return your current distributor as a core. They will never know the difference.

Does anyone know where to ask those cheaper reman or new distributors? Here in Finland they ask about 300$ for reman and 600$ for mallory distributor. So I'm going to buy it from USA or where ever I get cheaper.
Is it only 2.8 liter distributor that fits?

i just wish it were an option with a set of 3500 heads on a 3.4L rwd block... a 390 cfm road demon jr .... damn the aftermarket for not following up the 660* following!

any news on flanges to close off the 3500 heads...i need a cnc back to the coal mine.

dude Im running that same set up on my 87 2.8 with an edlbrock cam an lifter kit and it does great, of course I don't have the stock cam but it has quite a bit more balls than before, but I had to go with a distributor from an older s10. if you want Im a manager at a car parts house in the states checker oreily and I can get you the price and model number of the distributor that I have in my car(its a vacuum/ mechanical advance set up) but its up to you. nice to here you might change to a carburetor set up, oh an to get it to fit under your hood you will want to go with a 9 inch air cleaner it fits perfectly. spectra makes those and you can get a kN air filter for like 40 bucks too if you want to replace the paper filter that it comes with.
