  • Solid Mount, Dual Exhaust, and start of CAI.

So this morning I got up with a list of things to do.
    Install heated O2.
Install Solid Dog-Bone, that i slapped together yesterday.
tweak Dual exhaust for clearance issues.
Complete my gutted MAF Tube so I can have my future (48hrs) CAI installed, (TB has no hose flang.)

    Heated O2...It went horrible!

How dare GM already put in a heated O2 in a '95 Achieva! I've had this motor out and back in 4 times, you'd think I would have noticed and remembered it being a 4 wire! Oh well, no harm done, didn't cost me anything.

Install Solid Dog Bone, OK it ain't pretty. I stole the dog-bone out of the junkyard awhile back when i bought a motor from them. Turns out it had the right length but the width at the bolt holes was 1/8" and 1/4" thinner. And here yesterday i was worried about getting too thick when i welded the plate steel to it. Yes it's that basic, I burned out rubber slapped plate steel across the holes, drilled for the bolt sleeve, and welded in the bolt sleeve too. Also, the bolt hole sleeves were smaller then my bolts, so this morning I drilled then out. It took me an hour to do the whole thing and it looks like it. But, it works, and it cost me NOTHING!

Duel Exhaust...it sounds better then open manifolds!

Front pipe to lower Rad hose clearance issues...

    fixed.

This is the step up in pipe size I mentioned earlier. Not very clear but you can see the routing. I was pulling my hair out Saturday trying to find the posting about the Vacuum Modulator we can swap too that's smaller. I remembered someone saying TH350/400 would work, then the parts store hit me with, "red stripe or red and black strip?" So I worked around it, deal with it later. They couldn't get either for days anyway.

    Driver's side.

    Passenger side.

The TB I stripped from and Olds Aurora 4.0L didn't have a hose flange on it, so i had to use it's factory MAF. Not that I need a MAF sensor...So I gutted it, packed the electronics hole with model airplane putty, and then ground the flat spot of the ID to match the 75MM bore. Dang putty took a week to harden up. So i let it sit 3 more weeks.

    It works.

I even made a little fancy plate for the electronics side, since you can see it. Awwww ain't it prurty?

I pick up the rest of my CAI tomorrow morning. I went with 2 45deg 3.5" elbows aluminum. I think I may be able to run those directly from the TB all the way to the bottom front corner of the indie of my bumper and fender. This should bring me to just one more, hopefully to the ram air scoop under the bumper. IDK if I'm going to go through with the rest of the effort since I want to plumb through the future W-30 Ram Air scoops instead. Been raining lately, hopefully dry on Tuesday. I'm planing on getting a drag run in for the first time with the new UIM, TB, CAI, and solid bone. Wish me luck.

On a side note. Trying to do this with no money and shy of proper tools to do it right and look good ain't as fun. It's almost embarrassing to show it off.
sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

Go to Orielly auto and get a pioneer adjustable trans modulator for a TH350/400/powerglide. It's like $12-15.

Slap that on there to replace that huge factory Holley one. That will give you a TON more room for the exhaust by the trans there. You could move it back a lot more.

Plus you can turn up the line pressure by turning it up a few notches. It's the easiest way to get quicker shifts other than droppin the pan and shimming the acumulators.

EDIT: doh, you already typed that.... I haven't read the whole thread yet, just typing as I go... P/N has been posted before, search PCGUY or me as thread starter and see what comes up for threads only..

The 3.5 DOHC TB would have been easier but only 65mm I think the LS1/northstar TB is 75mm though and has a flange. But I bet you already had that 4.0 TB since you have the engine correct??

If you had money I think a 3900 would be pimp in there I wonder if CNCGuy has the gen3 timing cover conversion ready for them yet?

i NEED to remember this.... does it apply to the 4t60 as well? wifey's GP has a rough 3-2 downshift and its way too late, thinking i'll have to play with the TV cable there but a adjustable modulator would be nice as well...

            Yeah it should.

And those 2.5" pipes coming off the manifold are hurting performance. Go to 2" and you will be much better. Engines with way more displacement use 2" coming off the manifolds...

ouch, i'd wrap that front pipe ASAP.

God vids of it running? I started on some sidepipes for mine last year but since i drive it to the track i didn't want to have to unbolt a chunk of the street setup to bolt in the sidepipes.

All I have is a cell phone, it can do the pics as you can see, and it can do vid too, but when i tried to upload it to youtube it was terrible. So i found out youtube didn't like the format. So i bought a converter to mp4, converted it, and for some reason i couldn't get it to upload to youtube and finally gave up.

I'm hoping to still have some money for tomorrow to go to the track. I need gas, for the first time all year I'll be running on good gas too, not the 3 year old varnish smelling stuff! LOL wouldn't it be funny if she hits 13's just because of old gas was slowing her down!?

Anyway, my cousin is borrowing a cam corder for tomorrow. Hopefully he gets some good shots, hopefully the car performs as well. I'm expecting to have a camera shy car.
