  • Cam selection

I am building me a 3400 V6 for my cav and I am having trouble deciding on a cam. I have the Milzy stage 2 3500 heads, block bored .020 over, and a set of iron head pistons so far. so any help would be appreciated. If you need to know anything else just let me know.

did milzy give you flow specs for the heads? that's one thing that's needed to pick out a good cam.

    Just a few other questions..

Are you planning on using headers?
Do you plan on daily driving this?
    Who is doing the tuning?
    5 speed or auto?
Do you plan on using nitrous?

No flow specs. I will ask for some then post back here. As far as the other questions: no headers but getting ported manifolds, mostly weekend driver unless some goes wrong with my DD, I have no clue who is tuning I don't even know anyone around me that tunes, running and auto trany, And nitrious scares the crap outta me so thats a no.

You might want to have that auto rebuilt by a performance shop, you'll cook it behind this engine.. lol

I would really consider using 2 front 3500 manifolds, they are working very well on Redbird's car. http://www.v6z24.com/jbodyforum/litt...t,project.html

If you plan on buying the cam from WOT-Tech, Ben offers a camshaft selection service that is free (if you buy a cam from him).

personally i'd go with something around .500 lift, 260 adv duration on a 112 LSA. that should keep the valve overlap down and give you a bit better idle quality.

I am not sure how those 3500 manifolds would fit on mine cause this is going into a 3rd gen cavalier but I will have a look and see.

ugh...Milzy? nice guy, but lousy work. amongst other things...if i had kept his PCM tune in my GA, i'd eventually would have lost my engine, and ruined my tranny.

I hope his machine work is better than his programming then.

not from what i've seen. my first gasket match on my 3400 UIM and LIM looked much better than his.

even though i've never seen any MMS parts, EVERYONE bitches about them, so i am inclined to believe it.

i had one of his pcm tunes way back on my car. once i got dhp and did a scans that thing came out with the quickness.
from a dead stop with very very little throttle to get going i was getting some insane amounts of KR in the range of say 15degrees.
flashed a stock bin and it was normal no KR.

the only good and last thing i bought from him was the solid billet front tranny mount. prob because he didnt make them.

Mark from MP Racing said that, amongst other things, Milzy only decreases the shift time and doesn't increase line pressure. also, he pretty much eliminated the PCM's ability to take timing out in the event of detonation. at 6000 rpm, i was getting 33 degs of advance!

well I am glad I haven't ordered a pcm from him. I hope those heads are good. Also which head gasket do i use when using 3500 heads on a 3400 block? thanks

use the head gasket for what ever block your using. you would use 3400 head gaskets.
