i am starting to think i should just skip the N/A set up and just go right to turbo.

the stock bottem end is fairly stout so i don't think i would need to do mutch in that department. eather way it will probablt have a automatic (mor consistent at the strip) plus a T-56 would be a lot of money. even a build Ford T-5 (alot of G-bodue guys use it) would be a a few thousand.

have two smaller sized turbos on the car for quick spool up running at a bought 7psi would be fun

if you are going to go through with swapping in a 660, then you might as well. you'll get the itch to do it eventually.... either a 200-4R or 700R-4 should hold up as long as its not too extreme...

going to use a 700 from a V6 80's camaro doesn't need computer impute and it all ready has the propper bell housing (still going to have to mod for the starter though)

there are some guys running over 500 HP with the 700s when there built right. just stay out of OD

a manual wold be fun though but where i live it gets old and anoying i have had a few manuals and the fun factor whares off after a week of intown driving

i suggest getting ahold of Maximum Boost, by corky bell. great book on the subject of turbocharging, i reference it all the time. not cheap though...

I would run a 200-4r over a 700r4 any day. The 200-4r is whats in the grand national, and they hold up to alot of abuse. The only computer control is the TCC, and you can just wire in a switch for that. And then you don't have the shitty gearing of the 700r4. Maximum boost is a great book to point you in the general direction, however it is quite dated, and does not get into any specifics. If you are thinking of a turbo 660 in a g-body, you could save yourself alot of work, money, and headache, and just pick up a complete 86/87 grand national drivetrain, and call it a day.

grand nationals don't exactly have 660s...

I'm quite aware of that. The point is if you are going to spend all the time and money to turbo anything in a g body, why not let gm do all the work for you, and go with the gn drivetrain.

because GM surpassed the advantage that they engineered in the 80s with the newer 660s. why start with old tech(thats getting tough and expensive to find) when there is a better(but not necessarily easier) option?

i could stick a L67 in the monte, but it wouldn't be a smart thing to do(from my point of view) due to the availibility of better engines.

the GN uses a 90* buick 3.8 tall deck engine with a B-O-P-C bolt patter

the 200 is alot weaker then a 700 in stock form the only reson the 700 gotall the bad press it did was becuase it was put in 4x4 trucks with bad gearing (2.7x or higher) witch put a lot of stress on them even the THM400C went out becuase of this

the 700 was put behind 660 F-Bodies so the it will bolt up after trimming for the starter all the BB convertion Gs use the 700 becuase of it's abilaty to handle the tourqe after being built up. the stock LS1 cars use an electric vertion of this trans the 4L60-E so i think i will be fine.

if it was a strictly fun car it would probably get a manual but i plan on DD'ing it in the summer.

also the GN swap has been done to death in G-bodies it would not be any thing new or diffrent. why don't i just put a SBC in it run a 11's and call it a day then? becuase i would just be another sheep that just fallows the crowd

I forgot there was a 660 bolt pattern 700r4, I assumed you had to get an adapter plate either way. The poor gearing in the 700r4 I am refering to is the spread between 1st and 2nd.

they make diffrent ratio sun gears to fix that though

Yeah, at $1150. Suddenly a T56 doesn't look so bad eh. Well good luck with the project.
