  • Re-Usable Aluminum Oil Filter...?

Does anybody know whether this Aluminum Re-Usable, Washable Oil Filter would fit and function on a 3.4L VIN "S" Engine or not...and if so... Has anybody got any experience with its performance characteristics? Thanks in advance for all of your ideas... but for the LuvvaGod...please spare us any unproductive suggestions like, "Why don't you just change your oil and filter the way we always do it....?" These instructive tidbits won't be necessary because, as you might surmise, I'm already up to speed on that particular maintenance procedure. LOL... Besides... If I wasn't really curious about this other particular "Green" solution, I would not bother to solicit informed opinions. Thank you all... Gentlemen.

The thread size on the one you have listed won't fit. The link above says the filter is 18mm x 1.5mm threat pitch. It also notes the diameter as 2.98".

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-4-3L-V6-BILLET-OIL-FILTER-

The one listed there has the right thread pitch but is slightly larger in diameter. It might fit but I am not certain. If your car uses one of those angle adapters that relocates the filter it could probably be modified to work with it.

how do these perform. ive seen them mentioned before but no one in the community has actually used one.

it would pay for itself and you wouldnt have to worry about disposing of the old filter.

I wouldn't use those, but I would say if you could make the top part to your liking, you could make it fit the lower part. Even using an oil filter relocation kit would probably make that work.

That has a lot of bad written on it....

          Pay for itself??

How many $3 Oil Filters do you buy?

          I can buy a case of 12 AC-Delco filters for $34.99

At 3,000 miles per oil change that is 36,000 miles, or in my case about 8 - 10 years on my 3500.

It's the Royal Purple that is expensive, LOL!

I've seen these on summit. Keep in mind they only catch particles as small as 45 microns whereas the ACDelco's catch 25 and the K&N's 10.

Re-useable? Pass. Now if it was a system where you replace just the filter element but the steel case stays or something then ok... Sort of like BMW oil filters are (I think that's how they are, just the element).

The Eco-tecs use only the filter element. I actually miss changing the oil in our old Alero, since the filter element was accessible from the top of the engine.

now THATS convenient... still gotta get under there for the drain plug, but that simplifies everything a little.

There are great SS reusable filters on the market that filter BETTER than paper. Obviously those are not the ones.

                        WrathofSocrus...

Thanks for pointing out the discrepancies by the method of using the dimensions list for the Fram Filter. Very clever. I never would have thought to do that.

But this is the most convincing argument of all against my bothering with trying one out. I guess I would be curious to look at the magnetic core and the stainless steel filter screen in a bucket of JP-4 ...just to see what the stuff is that gets trapped inside ...without having to dump the whole crankcase full of oil in the process.

This is OFF TOPIC...Azreal...Forgive my impertinence, But do you derive your nickname from the biblical or middle eastern representation of Azreal, The Angel of Death...or does it come to you from the DC Comic character from the Batman Series? It's an interesting choice of names ...in either case....or perhaps you selected it from the character in the movie "Dogma"...?

Many thanks to you all, Gentleman... I'm now cured of my curiosity about this device.

CM Filters sold through Canton Racing filter down to 8 microns I thought they used a SS filter mesh but they don't they use a replaceable element. http://www.cmfilters.com/spin-on.cfm

Pure Power filters are reusable and they claim to be more efficient at removing 10 micron particles or smaller than paper. They won awards at SEMA and were featured in a ton of magazines. http://www.gopurepower.com/
