  • 3500 heads on 3400 stock

Hi, I have a 3400 1999 in my Cavalier that i'm presently rebuilding and i also have a complete 3500 LX9, and I montana 2000 that I bougth for the newer intakes.

What i was originaly planing to do was to keep my engine stock with the 2000 intake style and put an Aurore LX5 throttle body. Now i'm thinking to get the 3500 heads with the lower 3500 intake and the 3400 upper intake from my montana, also with aurora TB and probably with and injectors upgrade.

My question is that with the hybrid the compression will drop to 9.1:1, so will I can gain something with this combo or due to the lower compression I will lost gain that the 3500 heads can give me?

You will still gain some over the stock 3400 setup. The 3500 heads flow much better than stock 3400 heads. plus your only going down .4 points of compression that's not a huge amount.

Use the 3500 upper too. And you won't have to port out the neck for the TB too that way!

ahh porting the neck isnt that hard. its the porting the other 6 openings thats the time killer.

Even better reason to use the 3500 upper... No runners just open up the thin openings. Takes no time at all!

My interest for keeping the 3400 UIM is for the Throttle Body (no need of an adapter) and also for all the other modification need with the 3500 UIM. We cannot forget to mention that the 3500 UIM is very ugly, lol. Sorry for my english i'm from Québec, Canada.

Pretty doesn't win races, that ugly UIM is worth 5-10 HP and a much better RPM range over the 3400 one.

a little black paint makes it look pretty decent, or if you have enough clearance you can use the plastic engine cover.
