sorry im new to this whole thing, but im gonna dive into it anyways. im going to attempt to put a 3400 from 97 venture into a 98 sunfire. obviously these have a time with breaking camshafts, so to prevent this i want to replace it and bearings before i install it. but, if im gonna do that i thought id bump it up a notch. and i cant find anything definate (that i understand) on any website? im keeping all stock electronics so nothing huge. is it worth my time? or should i just keep stock? please help

Have a look on the J-Body Club of Ontario site.
They have a bunch of them already completed and they are very helpful if you ask nicely!! LOL
As far as the selection of a cam, be conservative, unless you are willing to spend a bunch on tuning.Last edited by asylummotorsports; 06-20-2009, 12:17 PM.

The only reason they break cams is because the lower intake gasket leaks coolant and takes out the bearings.
My 3100 has 22x,xxx something miles on it and runs great. Put a metal lower intake gasket on it.
The hot camshafts at WOTT are solid not hollow though by the way.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

Where you at in Ohio?
Anyways, the swap will be pretty easy. The motor can easily be swapped in in a day, and you'll probably spend a couple of days after that doing the wiring, which is a PITA. But in the end it's so totally worth it.
As far as the cams vs. the gaskets. I wouldn't worry about it much if you just want to do the swap. I never changed mine. Though all the gaskets/seals were changed before the swap, with the exception of the head gaskets. Then I spent a LOT of time making sure that all the dexcool was flushed out of everything (car and engine) after install, and went with green coolant.
However, I would advise of using a bigger cam if you want the extra power. Cuz, who wouldn't like that?
Also, look on j-body.org and go to the Third Gen Forum. There's a sticky in there for the V6 swap.97 Cavalier RS

I wasn't referring to any particular cam, just that the ones WOT sells are not hollow, but solid cams. So more "durable" if you view the hollow stock as weak (but that's not why they break).sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

Its clean and non-pretentious looking. I like it.Took a break from working on the car. Got some better tools, got a better shop, got a better job... Its time to burn metal!

No decal my friend. I painted that all on with spray paint. I came up with the idea and photoshoped it before I did it. I liked it and wanted to go with a "factory performance" look.
I made paths in photoshop so I could print out at high resolution the text and bowtie. Then cut out with an exacto blade. Sprayed the white and chevy red orange. layed down the lettering, sprayed the black, then removed the mask to revel the red/white.
