  • 3.4L cylinder heads intake manifold cam injectors

Hi I just ran across what I thought was a good deal on EBAY

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2475808683

So what would be some good next steps to take with this gear? I was going to put it all towards my 1998 3.1L Malibu. You know for a 3400 top end swap. By the way my engine is stock except for a CAI. Any info or opinions will be greatful.

Not a bad price, although you'll still need to find the plenum, which tends to bring in some high $$ sometimes. Not sure I want to believe that it all came off of a 2002 engine though. The lower manifold has the markings of a 2000.

My engine I had bought was a 2002 model 3100 and the manifold says 00 in it and from what I can tell, all 2000 and up manifolds say this << does anyone have a manifold that says 03 on it?? Anyway, not a bad option but I doubt it is a billet roller cam as he specify's as it looks like the hollow cam with pressed on lobes as they all are. The heads and manifold would be a good upgrade, doubt you'll see more than a 10hp increase as even the 02 model 3100 was rated at 170hp over your 98's 160 or so. These cams from what I can tell from my 95 model, 98 and now a 02 all have the same base lift, I dont know about duration numbers, so the cam as far as I can tell is a waste unless you plan a regrind. That newer manifold though is a big improvement over your 98 and would help out alot as it has larger runners from the UIM to the LIM and are alot cleaner also.

Cams are all the same. As far as the numbers on the lower manifold go, I have 1 that says 01 on it. Think I might also have one (or I've seen one) that had 99 on it. Who knows...

I have no plans for the cam just probably look into P&P the heads and intake everything else is an added bonus.

              I already have a 2001 GA plenum.

Damn computer!! I hate when I loose everything I just typed. Anyways...

I would spend the money on the heads and not worry about the intake. To see any benefit from work on the plenum and manifold, the heads would have to be massaged pretty deeply. You could smooth up the runners some if you have access to a die grinder, but I wouldn't spend any really money on them. Put the money into the heads, cause that's where you will see the most improvements.

Oh, and if you don't plan on doing anything with the injectors, could I talk you into donating one of them to research? Lemme know if you are interested....

That manifold is probably 90% the reason the 2002 3100 makes 170hp vs the 98 3100's 160. I'd get both the manifold and heads to do some work on. That manifold is and will look alot cleaner under your hood to...

If you want an injector from the 00 and up motor, e-mail me an address to send you some. These things are funking lookin though, I am gonna toss them soon...

I always thought the same thing about the manifold. Maybe not as much as 90% but a large part of that horsepower gain. At least I hope so.
