  • valve spring od ???

i need new valve springs for the maro the single oval wire springs/w damper i have arent holding upto the abuse of high rpms, so i want to try a triple valve spring but the od's of the springs are about .300-.500 larger then the springs i have now, since i dont have a set of heads infront of me can somone check clearance between the springs and the spring seat for me.

i need to know the max spring od for a set of iron heads

There really isn't a ton of iron head guys around here. The aftermarket cam you are using doesn't have any recommendation for what springs to use? A triple spring does sound a bit excessive. You say the springs you have aren't holding up. Are they stock? Aftermarket? if aftermarket, what springs are they? I'm sure the more knowledgeable people here could point you in the right direction to find a proper spring but I doubt too many people would know much about triple springs on an iron head application.

Number one, I thought your are getting rid of the car?

Number two, why are you trying to use triple springs?

You do realize there are crazy spring pressures available for the SBC and will swap in with a lot less work than machining the pockets since the OD of the stock sized spring has very little play to the edge of the spring pocket - not nearly enough to add another spring.

i am still getting rid of it,im not gonna sell it with worn out valve springs,

springs used to be 125 on the seat and 340 open well a quick test showed them down to around 85 seat and 270 open,

springs lasted maybe 600 miles so i dont feel like trying another single spring with damper just to have the same thing happen.

i wanna step the springs up to around 140 on the seat and just under 400 open and see what happens

yeah i know that there are springs that will swap in but if i could fit the larger diam springs there actually cheaper thats why i was curious as to if they would fit.im prolly just gonna wait till my car arrives up here next weekend, tear down the valve train and then order stuff from there

man, i hope your lifters can handle that pressure. Any oiling issues are going to flatten your cam as well.

they should be fine, they are modifed and are pretty much a solid lifter, the plunger only has like 8 thousands movement in it, maybe a lil more or less, im not sure i didnt mod the lifters myself, its a pain in the butt but due to constant valve lash adjustments, but was required to turn the rpms i wanted to
