  • Hybrid power steering help

I'm trying drop the power steering pump in and I'm hitting the large bundle of wires for the 2.8 engine harness that run behind the timing cover. Is there any other way around this?

Right now it looks like this:

It really doesn't want to go, I may be able to force it, but I'd rather not stress/pinch any wires.

Should I just shove it, or is there a better way?

that's a pretty weird place to have harnesses running.

I'd just push them down towards the block, the 3x00 pump should clear them.

I can see from the 3100 my mom has that the harness doesn't run this way. Is this another 1988 only thing, like my OPSU under the LIM?

Must be.. most of the time everything runs towards the firewall. On the Jbodies there is only 1 wire that runs through there, the Alternator power wire.

Are you using the Gen2 PS pump? If I recall they are too fat to fit with the Gen3 top end. The Gen 3 has a thinner reservoir to allow room for the intake. It looks like the intake pushes the wires right in the way.

It's the gen 3 power steering pump. I was able to get it in, took some shoving, tapping, prying, and it went.
