  • why does my 3.4 swap feel weak??

i just got done drive my 92 s10(5sp) for the first time, and i am not too impressed witht the power it is putting out
heres what i got, fully rebuilt bottom and top, 3.4 camaro motor. 2.8 intake bored for 4.3 tbi and injectors, its got a small isky256 cam proper valve springs, k&n stock replacement filter,
stock 2.8 manifold and full stock exhaust. this is all being run with the stock computer,
i feels and sounds like its running fine but not as powerfull as i expected. feels weaker than all the 2.8s ive owed?
    do i need a custom chip?headers?full exhaust?

Why are you using so many 2.8 parts on a 3.4 camaro motor? Wasn't the point of using a 3.4 camaro motor that you wouln't have to worry about finding intakes and exhausts that would work on it?

If you're using 2.8 intakes and manifolds on a 3.4 motor, you are starving it for air and keeping it from getting rid of all its exhaust gases efficiently. The biggest throttle body in the world won't make a difference if you have restrictions downstream. Why don't you try putting the 3.4 camaro parts on there, or at the very least 3.1 camaro parts so that engine can breathe?
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

The computer is probably most of the problem. It has no idea that its not a bone stock 2.8 and can't possibly adjust itself for the TB. Bore and stroke increase will certainly need tuning.

this exactly how every one with this swap runs it on their S10s, maybe im just expecting to much from it.im looking into a custom chip.

What are the cam specs? Double check timing and maybe do a compression test to verify all the valves are adjusted correctly. A first gen 2WD with a 3.4 should knock off a high 15 or low 16 quarter mile. I can do a 16 flat and that is with stock exhaust and air cleaner. I have a cold air intake now so it may go a bit faster but I have not raced it since. I also have a stock Camaro cam

sepcs are 256duration in & ex, 425 valve lift 112 LSA, im pretty sure valves a adjusted right, maybe i just need it to exhale a little better.
timing is set to stock spec,10* if that has anything to do with it,

And you set base timing with the timing wire disconnected right? Other than doing a quick compression test to verify cylinder pressure the engine should run really strong even on a 2.8L chip.

Well the 3.4L is not going to change your world. But it will move your truck quite a bit better than the 2.8L did.
