  • Another Cam Q. 240H/252H for 3100

Howdy fellows, its time for yet another thread about cam selection! I can see you're all uber excited already...

I was looking at http://members.shaw.ca/betterthanyou...haft_guide.htm and found the low-duration cams that I'd be interested in.

I'm not sure if these are what I need for a 3100 though. It seems that the gen3 3100 from the late 90s should be a roller cam block. A few quotes from betterthanyoutoo's cam page:
    ... all 2.8L, 3.1L and 3.4L engines ONLY ...
... all work in MPFI and TBI vehicles ...
The problem is, summit lists these 252H's as flat-tappet, and only for engines up to 1994.

If these flat-tappet cams are not what I need for a `97 gen3 3100, what should I be looking for? Custom regrind of a stock shaft?

not a pro on cams, but the comp cams cam that I got was a flat tappet cam, they actually custom ground me a cam just for my ap, but later had to switch back to the factory roller cam due to the flat tappet cam did not have a cam sensor ring on it and my engine management system needs that to run the DIS ignition. So you might have a problem using those cams on any 3X00 engines. Even stand alone engine managment systems like the FAST, Electromotive, and the Haltech systems said they need the cam sensor to fire the ignition. Comp reground my cam for me and is back in the engine and in the car..... Check the WOT store, I see he's got some cams listed, havent used them, but drop him a line and ask.....

Wont work. Get your stock one reground or buy one from the store.

that 252 is actually smaller than the stock 3x00 cam.

Re-grinds or cams from WOT-Tech are the way to go. I have a regrind in mine (solid core) and haven't had any problems. You can get almost any profile you want as well.
