Good Afternoon
I am a current owner of a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am GT with 76,xxx miles on the collect w/orginal motor and trans. Right now I am in the planning stages of swapping out my 3100 SFI to a 3400 SFI with the help of the www.3400swap.com site. But I figure while i have the both motor and trans out I figure when I swap it out I am going to do it the right way the first time.
I been looking around for a used 3400 at local junkyards w/low mileage but have not much luck. The lowest that I have found has been about 65,XXX -75,XXX off of 1999 grand am. When I due end up buy one I will be tearing it all down and cleaning up everything and replace gaskets, etc. But what the hell might as well put in some goodies. The question that I have are, (bear with me)
1. What type of cam and header package would offer the best results?
2. What type of compentents should I use for the valvetrain to have a balance between duribilty and performance?
3. With the added performance compentent on the motor would I have to strength the bottom end like the crank, oil pump, etc?
Those are my primary question that i have for the time being. The build would not happen for another year or so due to my work schuledule and school. Any advise would be greatly appreaticed. Must of the part that I would be using would come wot-tech site. I have had experience pulling enginge's apart and putting them together.
Thanks
