  • i need headers for a 3.1L firebird

i can find them for a 2.8 firebird, but not a 3.1L. i need them soon, as the bolts are randomly breaking in half and falling out of my stock manifolds. yea, thats right. they're just that rusted. this is my daily driver now, so i cant afford for it to go down. and i cant be spending $400 on a set of headers right now. im still planning on yanking this engine for a 3.4 anyway, but will be using the 3.1 in other projects.

i was thinking these would work:

    any suggestions?

Check Edelbrock and Hedman. But if your bolts are breaking then why not just get new bolts from GM. I bought them for my Trooper. They have the correct ones with the studs on the head of the bolt for mounting accessories.

i would, but i'd rather just get headers. they arent leaking too bad right now. just bad enough to justify headers in my mind
do you know what part #s i should be looking for from those 2? i've searched jegs and summit and cant find anything but those pacesetters.
      thanks for the help

2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 all have the same heads (RWD). The 2.8 headers will fit the 3.1 and 3.4 just fine.

            Just bought a set.

Many people on the Third Gen website I'm on use these. I'll be installing mine soon hopefully or selling the car.

pacesetter headers will work, but I heard that the smog pump will have to be removed on the 3.1's, not sure because mine was already removed when I bought them. I'm thinking the 2.8's didn't have a smog pump and thats why there only advertised for them.

                  93 S-10 2.8s have smog pumps

would F body headers work on S-10s? I need something better than the stock manifolds too. I'm missing most of my bolts too! And I wouldnt want to go through the trouble of removing the stock stuff just to put them back on. And those GM bolts are expensive, or I'm to cheap....

Or are there better manifolds out there? Are the 3.4 manifolds any better?

My 3.1 has the smog pump on it still, but its not hooked up to anything. If I knew how to route the belt correctly, I would remove it. I already have the a/c compressor off too. So if anyone has a routing diagram lemme know. I really wanna get rid of that smog pump.
And yes, my '83 firebird with its 2.8 also had a smog pump.
Killert, lemme know how you like your headers after you install them. But don't sell the car! Its a firebird. And your firebird loves you haha

I just took mine off got a shorter belt and it ran straight from the alt. to the crank. I heard of some saying they had belt slippage but mine didn't have any. If the 2.8's have the pump then you may not have to remove it, I already had removed mine when I bought the headers.

I think when I tried mine I was having trouble making sure the water pump was spinning the right way. But I can't remember.

No they wont work. But Hedman and Edelbrock both sell S-10 headers.

The water pump will still have the same wrap, it will just go straight to the crank instead of to the smog pump then to the crank.
